Marc Marquez Wins Sachsenring MotoGP Sprint 2026, Holds Off Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio
Sachsenring, Germany, July 11, 2026: Marc Marquez continued his remarkable record at the Sachsenring by converting pole position into victory in the 2026 MotoGP Tissot Sprint, leading every lap to claim back-to-back Sprint wins at the German circuit. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider withstood sustained pressure from younger brother Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio to secure another dominant victory.
Marquez made the perfect launch from pole position, grabbing the holeshot into Turn 1 ahead of Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP. Behind the leading duo, Ai Ogura initially climbed to third after an impressive start before Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider Fabio Di Giannantonio overtook the Japanese rookie by the end of the opening lap.
Further back, championship leader Jorge Martin made an encouraging start from eighth on the grid, moving up to sixth, while Fabio Quartararo and Pedro Acosta battled fiercely for positions inside the top ten.
The leading trio remained closely matched through the opening half of the 15-lap contest. However, Marc Marquez gradually began stretching his advantage, building a gap of around half a second over Alex Marquez. Di Giannantonio remained within striking distance, refusing to let the Ducati factory riders escape.
The race also saw Franco Morbidelli’s challenge end prematurely after the VR46 rider crashed out around the halfway stage.
As the Sprint entered its closing laps, Alex Marquez reduced the gap to just over three-tenths of a second, while Di Giannantonio closed rapidly on the Gresini rider, setting up a thrilling battle for the podium. The Italian appeared poised to launch a final-lap attack for second place, but Alex held firm under immense pressure.
Marc Marquez eventually crossed the finish line to claim another Sachsenring Sprint victory, extending his outstanding record at one of his most successful circuits. Alex Marquez finished second, with Di Giannantonio completing the podium in third after another strong performance that boosted his championship hopes.
Although Di Giannantonio missed out on second place, his podium finish leaves him just 13 points away from the MotoGP championship lead heading into Sunday’s Grand Prix and only two points behind second place in the standings.
Ai Ogura delivered another impressive ride to finish fourth for SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team, ahead of teammate Raul Fernandez in fifth. Championship leader Jorge Martin finished sixth, extending his overall advantage to 11 points over absent Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi.
Francesco Bagnaia crossed the line in seventh, while Pedro Acosta edged Fabio Quartararo in an entertaining fight for eighth. Brazilian rookie Diogo Moreira narrowly missed out on Sprint points in tenth but finished as the highest-placed Honda rider.
Attention now turns to Sunday’s German Grand Prix, where Marc Marquez will look to complete a perfect Sachsenring weekend, while Di Giannantonio aims to continue his title charge and potentially emerge as the new championship leader.
