Bengaluru, India, 27, 2026: India Yamaha Motor has launched the all-new YZF-R2 in India, expanding its popular R-series motorcycle portfolio with a new 200cc-class supersport. Prices for the Yamaha YZF-R2 start at Rs 2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), with the motorcycle offered in three variants and five colour options.

The YZF-R2 is Yamaha’s first offering in the 200cc segment and has been developed for riders seeking a combination of supersport styling, performance, technology and everyday usability. The motorcycle has been developed on an all-new platform, with its engine engineered in Japan in collaboration with Yamaha’s Indian teams.

Yamaha YZF-R2: Engine and Performance

Powering the new Yamaha YZF-R2 is a 204cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, single-cylinder, four-valve fuel-injected engine.

The engine produces a segment-leading 26.5 PS of maximum power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque. Yamaha says the powertrain has been designed to deliver strong acceleration, smooth power delivery and a high-revving character.

The engine features a finger-follower rocker-arm valvetrain with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, technology derived from Yamaha’s flagship R1. According to Yamaha, the system helps reduce friction and reciprocating mass while improving efficiency, durability and engine response.

Yamaha YZF-R2 Gets Lightweight Chassis

The YZF-R2 is built around a new high-tensile steel tube diamond frame, contributing to a kerb weight of 149 kg. Yamaha says this makes the motorcycle the lightest in its segment.

The chassis draws inspiration from the dimensions of the YZF-R6 and uses a four-point engine mounting system with an additional mounting point. The setup has been designed to improve chassis stability, rider feedback and cornering performance.

Suspension duties are handled by 37mm upside-down (USD) front forks and a rear monoshock. The setup is tuned to balance road-holding ability, handling and ride comfort across different riding conditions.

YZF-R2 Features R-Series Styling

The Yamaha YZF-R2 carries the latest design language of the company’s global R-series motorcycles. It gets sharp, aerodynamic bodywork designed to give the motorcycle a purposeful supersport stance.

The front features a compact bi-functional LED headlight flanked by dual LED position lights. The front fairing draws aerodynamic inspiration from the Yamaha R9, while the rear gets a block-style LED taillight influenced by the YZF-R1.

The motorcycle also features a MotoGP-inspired swingarm, further emphasising its racing-inspired character.

The new Yamaha YZF-R2 comes equipped with a comprehensive package of performance, safety and connectivity features.

The higher-specification variants also get additional features. The second variant comes with a segment-first third-generation bi-directional Quick Shifter, while the range-topping YZF-R2 M adds further premium and adjustable equipment.

The YZF-R2 M gets adjustable front forks, rear shock absorbers, clutch lever and brake lever, along with a 3D embossed emblem, faux-suede finished seat, silver-finished swingarm and shot-blasted muffler end cap.

The M variant also gets Yamaha’s Smart Key System.

Yamaha R-Series Crosses One Million Motorcycles in India

The launch of the YZF-R2 comes as Yamaha’s R-series continues to build a strong presence in the Indian market. The company says more than one million R-series motorcycles are currently on Indian roads.

Commenting on the launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said the YZF-R2 represents a significant milestone in Yamaha’s long-term growth strategy. He described the motorcycle as a gateway to the company’s supersport range, combining R-series DNA with lightweight performance and fuel efficiency.
