Johann Zarco Set to Return for MotoGP Aragon GP After Knee Injury
August 22, 2026: Johann Zarco is set to return to MotoGP action at the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon, with Castrol Honda LCR confirming that the French rider is expected to make his comeback following a period on the sidelines. His participation, however, remains subject to passing the mandatory medical examination at the circuit.
The Aragon GP will mark Zarco’s first MotoGP appearance since the Catalan Grand Prix, where a crash left the Honda rider with ligament injuries to his left knee.
Zarco accelerates recovery ahead of Aragon return
Following the crash in Barcelona, Zarco was forced to miss the subsequent Grands Prix as he focused on recovering from his knee injury. The #5 rider and his medical team initially opted for a non-surgical treatment plan, with September identified as the original target for his return to racing.
However, Zarco’s recovery has progressed faster than expected in recent weeks, allowing him to bring forward his comeback.
As part of his rehabilitation programme, the Frenchman has gradually increased his workload, riding both a supermoto bike and a Honda CBR1000RR to assess and rebuild his fitness ahead of a potential return to MotoGP competition.
Final medical clearance required
With his recovery progressing steadily, Zarco has now been cleared to travel to the MotorLand Aragón circuit for the Grand Prix weekend. He will still need to pass the mandatory medical assessment before being officially declared fit to race.
If he receives medical clearance, Zarco will reunite with Castrol Honda LCR and return to the MotoGP grid for the first time since his Catalan GP appearance.
His return will be closely watched as he looks to regain race fitness and continue his work with Honda and LCR during the second half of the 2026 MotoGP season.
