Izan Guevara will step up to MotoGP in 2027 with Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP, as Yamaha continues its long-term strategy of developing young riders through its BLU CRU pathway.

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has confirmed that Spanish rider Izan Guevara will graduate to the MotoGP class in 2027, joining the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP team.

The move represents another significant milestone for Yamaha’s BLU CRU rider development programme, which is designed to identify and nurture young racing talent and provide a pathway to the premier class.

Guevara has already established himself as one of the most promising riders of his generation. The Spaniard won the 2022 Moto3 World Championship and has continued to make his mark in Moto2.

Guevara has been a leading contender in the 2026 Moto2 World Championship, sitting second in the standings after the British Grand Prix.

His progress in Moto2 has been particularly important after two challenging seasons in the intermediate class. Yamaha said it made a mutual commitment with Guevara around 18 months ago to help him work towards reaching MotoGP.

Paolo Pavesio, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, said Guevara’s development has demonstrated not only his speed and talent but also his growing maturity, consistency and determination.

Pavesio added that Guevara’s promotion is an example of what Yamaha’s BLU CRU programme was designed to achieve, with the manufacturer looking to develop the next generation of MotoGP riders.

Guevara to join Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP

Guevara will join Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP for his rookie premier-class campaign in 2027.

Pramac Racing Team Principal Paolo Campinoti said the team had closely followed Guevara’s development and believes his performances, commitment and progress have earned him the opportunity to compete in MotoGP.

The move also reinforces the philosophy behind the partnership between Yamaha and Pramac, with both organisations focused on developing young riders and creating a clear route to MotoGP.

MotoGP enters new era in 2027

Guevara’s MotoGP debut will coincide with a major technical change for the championship.

From 2027, MotoGP will move to 850cc engines, while also introducing a new tyre supplier. Yamaha believes the regulatory reset could provide an opportunity for young riders entering the premier class, as experienced competitors and rookies will all need to adapt to new machinery and technical regulations.

For Guevara, the focus will initially be on learning and adapting to MotoGP before setting longer-term performance targets.

“This is a dream come true for me,” Guevara said, describing reaching MotoGP as a long-standing goal.

The Spaniard also stressed that his immediate priority remains the 2026 Moto2 championship, where he is currently fighting for the title.

Guevara said his objective for 2027 will be to learn as quickly as possible, work closely with the Yamaha team and progressively improve as he adapts to the demands of premier-class racing.

Yamaha continues young rider development strategy

Guevara’s promotion provides another example of Yamaha’s strategy of developing riders through the lower categories before giving them an opportunity in MotoGP.

Having won the Moto3 world title in 2022 and now established himself as a Moto2 title contender, Guevara will arrive in MotoGP with championship-winning experience and a strong understanding of Yamaha’s development structure.
