MotorLand Aragon, Spain, August 24, 2026: MotoGP returns to action this weekend after a two-week break, with the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon marking the start of the championship’s crucial second half. As the paddock heads to the historic MotorLand Aragon circuit, the 2026 MotoGP title race remains wide open, with five riders separated by just 41 points.

Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing arrives in Aragon as the championship leader after extending his advantage to 31 points with a strong weekend at Silverstone. However, with 10 Grands Prix still remaining, the title battle is far from settled.

British GP winner Raul Fernandez of the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team is also a major talking point. His victory at Silverstone made him the seventh different race winner of the 2026 season, matching the number of different winners recorded across the entire 2025 campaign. Fernandez currently sits sixth in the standings, 56 points behind Martin.

Aprilia enters Aragon with momentum

Martin enjoyed one of his strongest weekends of the season at Silverstone, taking pole position before winning the Tissot Sprint and scoring 20 points in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

The reigning 2024 MotoGP champion will be looking to maintain that consistency in Aragon as he targets a second premier-class world title. However, Aprilia is not expected to enjoy quite the same advantage at MotorLand as it did at Silverstone.

Marco Bezzecchi also provided Aprilia with a major boost at the British GP. After a difficult run before the summer break, the Italian returned to form and moved into second place in the championship. A fitter Bezzecchi is expected to be an even stronger contender in Aragon.

Trackhouse will also arrive in positive spirits following Fernandez’s second MotoGP victory. The Spaniard demonstrated his potential at Silverstone and has now put himself firmly into the championship conversation.

His teammate Ai Ogura, meanwhile, will be looking for a response after his Silverstone crash. The Japanese rider is now 37 points behind Martin, but that gap remains small enough to disappear after just one strong weekend. Ogura had been enjoying a three-race podium streak before his mistake at Silverstone.

Marc Marquez looking to hit back at MotorLand

Among the riders expected to challenge for victory in Aragon, Marc Marquez and Ducati Lenovo Team stand out.

The reigning MotoGP World Champion endured one of his more difficult weekends since joining Ducati at Silverstone, but MotorLand Aragon has historically been one of his strongest circuits.

Marquez has won the last two MotoGP Grands Prix held at Aragon and has also taken pole position, Sprint victories and fastest laps at the venue. With seven MotorLand victories already to his name, the Ducati rider will be determined to respond immediately.

Despite his difficult British GP, Marquez remains only 40 points behind Martin, keeping him firmly in the title fight.

Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP was the leading Ducati rider at Silverstone, securing fourth place in both the Sprint and Grand Prix. The 2025 championship runner-up also finished second to Marc Marquez in both the Sprint and Grand Prix at Aragon last year.

Fermin Aldeguer will also return to action after missing several races following his Dutch GP crash. The 2025 Rookie of the Year will be hoping to rebuild his momentum.

Bagnaia needs a response

Francesco Bagnaia will also be looking to bounce back after a difficult British GP.

The Ducati Lenovo Team rider has enjoyed plenty of success at MotorLand, including his first MotoGP victory at the circuit in 2021. He also finished on the podium alongside the Marquez brothers last year and was involved in a memorable battle at the venue in 2022.

A strong result in Aragon could provide Bagnaia with the momentum he needs as the championship enters its decisive phase.

Fabio Di Giannantonio is another rider with plenty at stake. The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider sits only 41 points behind Martin but has gone six Grands Prix without a podium. After finishing sixth at Silverstone, Di Giannantonio will be targeting a return to the rostrum.

His teammate Franco Morbidelli will also be chasing a better result, with the Italian looking for his first Sunday top-10 finish since the Catalan GP. Morbidelli won at MotorLand in 2020.

Can Pedro Acosta challenge for the podium?

Pedro Acosta continues to extract strong performances from the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing RC16 and will arrive at MotorLand looking for another step forward.

The Spanish rider finished fourth at Aragon last season and will be hoping to turn that result into a podium challenge this time around.

Brad Binder also arrives with renewed confidence after finishing eighth at Silverstone. The result gave the South African back-to-back Sunday top-10 finishes for the first time this season.

Enea Bastianini, meanwhile, will be determined to forget his British GP DNF. The KTM Tech3 rider has already won at MotorLand, taking victory in 2022, and will be hoping to return to the front.

There is also uncertainty over the second KTM Tech3 seat, with Pol Espargaro potentially continuing as a substitute while Maverick Viñales continues his recovery from a shoulder injury.

Honda and Zarco target stronger weekend

Honda’s Luca Marini remains the only rider to have scored points in every Grand Prix of the 2026 season. The Honda HRC Castrol rider sits 10th in the championship with 86 points and has built his campaign around remarkable consistency.

Rookie Diogo Moreira is currently the next-best Honda rider in 15th place. The pair helped Honda secure a double top-10 finish at the British GP and will be looking to repeat that performance at MotorLand.

Joan Mir, meanwhile, will be desperate for a clean weekend after suffering his eighth DNF of the season at Silverstone.

Johann Zarco is also set to make his MotoGP return with Castrol Honda LCR at Aragon. The Frenchman has been sidelined since his crash at the Catalan GP and will need to pass the mandatory medical examination at the circuit before being cleared to race.

Yamaha continues development push

Yamaha’s focus remains firmly on development as the Japanese manufacturer works to close the gap to the leading manufacturers.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP riders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins both failed to score points at Silverstone, while test rider Augusto Fernandez was also on track as Yamaha continued its development programme.

Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP provided some positives, with Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu both scoring points at the British GP.

Razgatlioglu will be one of the riders to watch at MotorLand. The Turkish star has now had more experience of the circuit and will be looking to build on his progress with Yamaha.

MotoGP title race enters decisive phase

The 2026 MotoGP championship heads to Aragon with the form book changing dramatically after Silverstone.

Martin has the championship lead, but Marc Marquez, Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio and the rest of the chasing pack remain within striking distance. With five riders separated by just 41 points and 10 Grands Prix still to come, the title race is entering its most important phase.

MotorLand Aragon could provide another major swing in momentum as MotoGP begins its relentless run towards the season finale in Valencia.
