Marc Marquez Equals Sachsenring Record with 10th MotoGP Victory, Reignites 2026 Title Fight

Sachsenring, Germany, July 12, 2026: The reigning MotoGP World Champion led from lights to flag in Sunday’s German Grand Prix to secure his 102nd career victory across all Grand Prix classes. The maximum 37-point haul from the weekend lifted Marquez from more than 100 points behind after the Italian Grand Prix to third in the championship standings, firmly putting him back in the title race heading into the summer break.

Ai Ogura continued his remarkable sophomore campaign by finishing second for SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team, while teammate Raul Fernandez completed the podium to give the American outfit back-to-back double podium finishes after another outstanding weekend.

Marc Marquez Controls the Race from Pole

Starting from pole position, Marquez made another perfect launch, just as he had in Saturday’s Sprint Race, holding the lead into Turn 1 ahead of brother Alex Marquez. Behind the leading Ducati, Alex kept the charging SuperFile Trackhouse duo of Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez at bay during the opening laps.

Fabio Di Giannantonio initially ran fifth after losing positions off the line, while championship leader Jorge Martin, Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia all gained ground at the expense of Fabio Quartararo during the opening stages.

Marquez quickly settled into his rhythm at the front, maintaining a comfortable advantage while the battle intensified behind him.

Championship Contenders Hit Trouble

The race took a dramatic turn when Fabio Di Giannantonio crashed at Turn 10 while chasing Ogura in the early laps. The Italian’s first retirement of the season ended his hopes of taking over the championship lead before the summer break.

Moments later, another major contender fell by the wayside. Alex Marquez crashed at Turn 13 on Lap 9 after comfortably running in second place, handing the podium positions to the SuperFile Trackhouse riders and allowing Marc Marquez to extend his lead.

With both rivals eliminated, Marquez gradually increased his advantage to over two seconds, while Pedro Acosta mounted pressure on Ogura for third before the Japanese rider shifted his focus to teammate Raul Fernandez ahead.

Ogura and Fernandez Seal Double Podium

The decisive move came when Ogura overtook Fernandez at Turn 1 to move into second place, before pulling clear to secure his third consecutive Sunday podium following his recent victory at Assen.

Fernandez held on to finish third, ensuring another memorable weekend for SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team with both riders standing on the podium for the second successive Grand Prix.

The result also strengthened Ogura’s championship challenge, with the Japanese rider climbing to second in the standings and reducing Jorge Martin’s lead to just 14 points.

Martin Holds Off Bagnaia

Pedro Acosta enjoyed an impressive return from carpal tunnel syndrome surgery by finishing fourth for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

Championship leader Jorge Martin survived intense late pressure from Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia to secure fifth place, crossing the finish line just 0.123 seconds ahead of the Italian. The narrow margin proved crucial as Martin heads into the summer break still leading the championship by 14 points.

Fabio Quartararo finished seventh for Yamaha ahead of Luca Marini, Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder, who completed the top ten.

Diogo Moreira, Jack Miller, Franco Morbidelli, Alex Rins and Toprak Razgatlioglu rounded out the points-paying positions, while Cal Crutchlow, Maverick Viñales and Joan Mir failed to finish.

Marquez Back in the Championship Hunt

Marquez’s victory was historic on multiple fronts. It marked his 10th MotoGP win at Sachsenring, equalling the legendary Giacomo Agostini’s record for the most premier-class victories at a single circuit. More importantly, it transformed the complexion of the championship.

Having trailed by 102 points after Mugello, Marquez now heads into the three-week summer break sitting third in the standings and firmly back in contention for the 2026 MotoGP title.

When the championship resumes at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, Jorge Martin will lead Ai Ogura by 14 points, with Marc Marquez now emerging as a serious threat in what promises to be a thrilling second half of the season.
