MotoGP Grand Prix of Italy: Marco Bezzecchi Leads Title Fight as MotoGP Heads to Mugello

Mugello, Italy, May 26, 2026: The 2026 MotoGP World Championship heads into one of its most iconic venues this weekend as the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy takes centre stage in the rolling hills of Tuscany for Round 7 of the season.

With an Italian rider leading the championship standings for the first time since 2023, home fans are expected to create a spectacular atmosphere at the legendary Mugello Circuit.

Marco Bezzecchi Targets First Mugello Podium

Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi arrives at Mugello holding a 15-point advantage over Jorge Martin after extending his lead during the previous round in Barcelona.

Riding for Aprilia Racing, Bezzecchi endured a difficult Catalan GP weekend but still managed to strengthen his championship position. Despite never finishing on a premier-class podium at Mugello, the Italian will look to use home support to break that streak.

Teammate Jorge Martin, meanwhile, returns to Mugello with strong previous form after securing podium finishes in the last two Grands Prix held at the circuit before missing the 2025 edition. The reigning 2024 world champion will be eager to bounce back after failing to score points in Barcelona.

Fabio Di Giannantonio Arrives with Momentum

Fresh off victory in Barcelona, Fabio Di Giannantonio heads into his home race full of confidence. The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider secured only the second MotoGP victory of his career and will now aim to continue his strong run at Mugello after finishing on the podium there in 2025.

One of his main rivals will be Pedro Acosta of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. Acosta showed exceptional pace in Barcelona, taking pole position and narrowly missing out on Sprint victory before crashing out dramatically on the final lap of Sunday’s race.

Italian Stars Look to Shine at Home

Three-time Mugello winner Francesco Bagnaia will once again be one of the biggest attractions for Italian fans. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider dominated at Mugello from 2022 to 2024 before finishing fourth last year.

Bagnaia heads into the Italian Grand Prix after securing his first podium finish since Motegi in 2025 and will be determined to challenge for victory in front of the passionate Tifosi.

Italian hopes will also rest on Luca Marini, Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli, with Marini arriving after his best result of the season in Barcelona.

Injury Concerns and Key Absences

The weekend also carries uncertainty regarding the fitness of reigning champion Marc Marquez. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider missed Le Mans after undergoing a shoulder procedure following a crash and remains doubtful for Mugello.

Meanwhile, Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco are confirmed absentees for the Italian Grand Prix, although replacement riders are yet to be announced.

Rising Stars and Redemption Stories

Rookie sensation Ai Ogura and teammate Raul Fernandez continue to impress for Trackhouse MotoGP Team, with both riders currently sitting inside the top six in the standings.

Elsewhere, Fermin Aldeguer will look to build on his surprise podium finish in Barcelona, while Fabio Quartararo seeks another strong result after recording his best finish of the season last time out.

The Italian GP will also mark the Mugello debut of Toprak Razgatlioglu in MotoGP colours for Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP.

With championship momentum shifting, home heroes chasing glory and questions surrounding the fitness of key contenders, the Mugello weekend promises another thrilling chapter in the 2026 MotoGP season.
