MotoGP Austria 2025: Marquez Extends Streak, Rookie Aldeguer Stuns with P2
The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring delivered another MotoGP classic, as Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) finally conquered the Spielberg circuit with a commanding performance. The eight-time World Champion secured his first victory at the Red Bull Ring and his sixth consecutive Grand Prix win, marking a historic milestone on a weekend that also celebrated MotoGP’s 1000th race.
The Spaniard crossed the line ahead of rookie sensation Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), who produced a career-best P2 finish, while Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) completed the podium after a thrilling battle at the front.
Marquez Ends Austrian Drought in Style
After years of near misses at the Red Bull Ring, Marc Marquez finally stood on the top step in Austria. The #93 backed up his Sprint Race victory with a perfectly executed ride on Sunday, extending his Championship lead to 142 points.
Marquez admitted the win carried extra weight:
“I’m super happy about the weekend. There are no excuses – I’m riding the right bike, and this time everything clicked. Marco pushed hard in the early laps, and then Fermin arrived with incredible pace at the end. It was a great fight, and to finally win here feels very special.”
Rookie Aldeguer Shines with Career-Best Finish
The breakthrough star of the Austrian GP was Fermin Aldeguer, who once again showed why he is tipped as a future MotoGP champion. The Spanish rookie’s late-race charge stunned the paddock, as he overtook Marco Bezzecchi and closed down Marquez in the final laps, finishing just 1.118s behind the race winner.
“Today’s race was incredible – maybe the best of my life,” Aldeguer said. “Everything felt easy. I’m the new era, I’m young, and to fight against an eight-time World Champion is a super special feeling.”
This result marked Aldeguer’s second podium in the premier class and another huge step forward in his debut season.
Bezzecchi Back on the Podium
For much of the race, it looked like Marco Bezzecchi might spoil Marquez’s Red Bull Ring redemption. The Italian led several laps but couldn’t hold off the charging Marquez and Aldeguer in the final stages, eventually crossing the line in third.
“It wasn’t easy after a tough Friday, but we stayed calm and worked hard. Leading the race was positive, but in the final laps I didn’t have enough. Still, a podium here feels good and we’ll keep working,” Bezzecchi reflected.
Drama for Martin and Bagnaia
It was a weekend of mixed fortunes elsewhere in the paddock. Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing), the reigning World Champion, endured a difficult Austrian GP after crashing out on Lap 14. Thankfully, he escaped serious injury and confirmed he’ll be ready for the next round in Hungary.
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) also struggled, finishing eighth after a DNF in the Sprint. The result ended his streak of Austrian GP success, with the Italian admitting:
“It’s very difficult to accept because I felt fast all weekend. But in the race, the performance wasn’t there. It’s frustrating and hard to understand right now.”
Strong Showing for KTM at Home GP
At their home race, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing delivered a solid performance. Rising star Pedro Acosta finished fourth, ahead of teammate Brad Binder, while Enea Bastianini secured fifth for Red Bull KTM Tech3.
“It’s not an easy track for us, but we worked well all weekend,” Acosta said. “A Sprint podium and P4 in the race is a good result. We’ll take confidence into Hungary.”
MotoGP 2025 Championship Picture
With his sixth straight Grand Prix victory, Marc Marquez continues to dominate the 2025 MotoGP season. The Ducati star leads the standings by a huge margin, while Aldeguer and Bezzecchi are emerging as consistent challengers.
The MotoGP World Championship now heads to Hungary for Round 14, where all eyes will once again be on Marquez – and whether Aldeguer can push him even closer to victory.
