Mumbai, India, September 1, 2026: Commercial vehicle sales witnessed strong growth in August 2026, with total domestic sales rising 43% year-on-year to 19,438 units compared with 13,622 units sold in August 2025. The growth was led by a sharp increase in medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) truck sales, while light commercial vehicle (LCV) volumes also recorded healthy growth.

Including exports, total vehicle sales increased 38% year-on-year to 21,038 units in August 2026, compared with 15,239 units in the corresponding month last year.

M&HCV trucks lead domestic sales growth

M&HCV trucks were the biggest contributor to the overall increase in domestic commercial vehicle sales. The company sold 10,285 M&HCV trucks in the domestic market in August 2026, marking a 60% increase over the 6,426 units sold in August 2025.

Cumulative domestic M&HCV truck sales for the period stood at 42,945 units, up 31% from 32,879 units during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Domestic M&HCV bus sales also grew during the month, increasing 36% year-on-year to 2,123 units from 1,565 units in August 2025. However, cumulative M&HCV bus sales declined 11% to 7,941 units compared with 8,918 units in the year-ago period.

As a result, total domestic M&HCV sales climbed 55% in August 2026 to 12,408 units, compared with 7,991 units a year earlier. Cumulative M&HCV sales reached 50,886 units, representing a 22% year-on-year increase.

LCV sales rise 25%

The light commercial vehicle segment also delivered solid growth in August.

Domestic LCV sales stood at 7,030 units during the month, an increase of 25% compared with 5,631 units sold in August 2025.

Cumulative domestic LCV sales reached 32,834 units, up 24% from 26,553 units recorded during the corresponding period last year.

With growth across both M&HCV and LCV segments, total domestic vehicle sales increased to 19,438 units in August 2026 from 13,622 units in August 2025.

Exports add to overall growth

The company’s combined domestic and export sales also recorded strong growth during August 2026.

M&HCV truck sales, including exports, increased 60% year-on-year to 10,748 units from 6,738 units in August 2025. Cumulative sales stood at 44,511 units, up 32% from 33,787 units.

M&HCV bus sales including exports rose 12% during the month to 2,971 units compared with 2,643 units in August 2025. However, cumulative sales declined 17% to 10,902 units from 13,194 units.

Total M&HCV sales, including domestic sales and exports, rose 46% to 13,719 units in August 2026 from 9,381 units in August 2025. Cumulative M&HCV volumes increased 18% to 55,413 units.

LCV sales including exports increased 25% year-on-year to 7,319 units in August 2026, compared with 5,858 units in August 2025. Cumulative LCV sales stood at 33,978 units, up 23% year-on-year.

Overall, domestic and export sales reached 21,038 vehicles in August 2026, compared with 15,239 units in August 2025, translating into a 38% year-on-year increase.

Cumulative total vehicle sales including exports stood at 89,391 units, up 20% from 74,541 units during the corresponding period of the previous year.
