Jorge Martin Wins French MotoGP at Le Mans as Aprilia Secures Historic 1-2-3 Finish
Le Mans, France, May 10, 2026: Jorge Martin completed one of the most emotional comeback victories of the 2026 MotoGP season after storming to a sensational win at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans, leading a historic podium lockout for Aprilia Racing.
After battling injuries and uncertainty throughout 2025, Martin returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since the 2024 Indonesian Grand Prix with a masterclass ride that saw him hunt down and overtake teammate Marco Bezzecchi in the closing laps.
Adding to Aprilia’s dream afternoon, rookie sensation Ai Ogura secured his maiden MotoGP podium with a stunning late-race charge to finish third. The result marked the first-ever MotoGP podium sweep for the Noale-based manufacturer and the first MotoGP podium for a Japanese rider since 2012.
Bezzecchi Takes Early Lead as Quartararo Excites Home Fans
Bezzecchi made the perfect start from the front row to grab the lead into Turn 3, while home favourite Fabio Quartararo delighted the Le Mans crowd by climbing into second place after an aggressive opening-lap battle with Pedro Acosta.
Pole-sitter Francesco Bagnaia slipped to fourth in the early stages, while Fabio Di Giannantonio made a much stronger launch than in Saturday’s Sprint to move into fifth.
Drama struck early when Alex Marquez crashed out on Lap 2 after running inside the top 10. Acosta soon overtook Quartararo for second before Bagnaia began showing strong race pace, setting the fastest lap as he closed rapidly on Bezzecchi.
Jorge Martin Charges Into Contention
As the race settled into rhythm, Martin steadily worked his way through the pack. The reigning 2024 world champion eventually passed Di Giannantonio after several intense battles before setting his sights on the leading trio.
Bagnaia looked comfortable in second place and appeared ready to challenge Bezzecchi for victory, but disaster struck on Lap 16 when the Ducati rider crashed at Turn 3 while running in P2.
The incident promoted Martin into podium contention and transformed the race into a direct Aprilia showdown at the front.
Martin Overtakes Bezzecchi in Stunning Late Move
Once past Acosta on Lap 18, Martin began rapidly cutting into Bezzecchi’s lead. The gap shrank lap by lap as the Aprilia teammates fought for victory in front of a packed Le Mans crowd.
Behind them, Ogura was producing another remarkable performance. The Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider overtook Acosta for third on Lap 23, making it an all-Aprilia top three.
With three laps remaining, Martin finally launched his decisive move. Diving aggressively down the inside at Turn 3, the Spaniard executed a brilliant late-braking overtake on Bezzecchi to take the lead.
From there, Martin controlled the closing laps perfectly to secure an emotional victory and complete a remarkable comeback story after a difficult injury-hit period.
Historic Day for Aprilia and Breakthrough for Ogura
Bezzecchi held off Ogura’s late pressure to finish second, although his championship lead was cut to just one point after Martin’s victory.
Ogura’s third-place finish delivered the first MotoGP podium of his career and ended a 14-year wait for a Japanese rider on a premier-class podium.
The result also cemented Aprilia’s dominance at Le Mans with a historic 1-2-3 finish — a first for the Italian manufacturer in MotoGP.
