New Delhi, India, August 15, 2026: The Indian automobile industry recorded its strongest-ever July sales in 2026, with passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers all registering strong double-digit growth, according to the latest data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Domestic sales of passenger vehicles increased 34.3% year-on-year to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, compared with 3,40,772 units in July 2025. Three-wheeler sales rose 33.4% to 92,560 units, while two-wheeler sales grew 22.6% to 19,23,483 units.

Overall production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles stood at 33,70,958 units in July 2026, up 24.8% from 27,02,121 units produced in July 2025.

Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said the industry had delivered its strongest-ever July sales, with positive momentum continuing for several months as the industry enters the festive season.

Passenger Vehicle Sales Rise 34.3%

Passenger vehicle sales remained one of the strongest performers in July 2026, with total domestic sales rising to 4,57,810 units.

Passenger cars recorded sales of 1,32,408 units, up 37.6% compared with 96,207 units in July 2025. Utility vehicle sales increased 29.2% to 2,48,895 units, while van sales rose 12.6% to 13,896 units.

Passenger vehicle production increased 26.4% year-on-year to 5,05,520 units in July. Utility vehicle production rose 27.5% to 3,09,230 units, while passenger car production increased 26.3% to 1,81,651 units.

SIAM’s July passenger vehicle data does not include BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors and Volvo Auto production data.

Two-Wheeler Sales Cross 19 Lakh Units

India’s two-wheeler market also recorded strong growth in July, with domestic sales increasing 22.6% to 19,23,483 units, compared with 15,69,120 units in the same month last year.

Scooter sales rose 23.7% to 7,98,190 units, while motorcycle sales increased 20.7% to 10,74,796 units. Moped sales recorded the highest growth among the three two-wheeler sub-segments, rising 48.6% to 50,497 units.

Two-wheeler production increased 24.2% to 27,18,514 units in July 2026. Motorcycle production stood at 16,72,008 units, while scooter production reached 9,91,539 units.

Three-Wheeler Sales Grow 33.4%

Three-wheeler domestic sales increased 33.4% year-on-year to 92,560 units in July 2026.

Passenger carriers accounted for 77,994 units, representing 32.9% growth over July 2025. Goods carrier sales rose 40.3% to 12,896 units, while e-rickshaw sales increased 7.5% to 1,132 units.

Three-wheeler production grew 30% to 1,45,913 units during the month.

Auto Exports Also Record Strong Growth

The positive performance extended to vehicle exports. Overall exports of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles increased 25.1% year-on-year to 6,77,122 units in July 2026.

Two-wheeler exports rose 27.7% to 5,54,258 units, while three-wheeler exports increased 31.5% to 52,309 units. Passenger vehicle exports grew 3.9% to 69,931 units.

Motorcycle exports increased 29.8% to 4,80,013 units, while scooter exports rose 23.8% to 73,165 units.

April-July FY2026-27 Auto Sales Show Broad-Based Growth

The industry’s strong July performance follows healthy growth during the first four months of FY2026-27.

Between April and July 2026, total passenger vehicle domestic sales increased 27.1% to 16,69,010 units, while three-wheeler sales grew 30.8% to 3,06,899 units. Two-wheeler domestic sales increased 20.9% to 75,52,158 units.

Combined domestic sales across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles reached 95,28,071 units during April-July 2026, up 22.2% compared with the corresponding period of 2025-26.

Vehicle exports during the same period increased 31.7% to 26,06,518 units. Two-wheeler exports rose 34.1%, while three-wheeler exports increased 50%.

Festive Season Outlook Positive

The July performance comes ahead of India’s key festive shopping period, with SIAM highlighting sustained positive momentum and expectations of strong consumer sentiment.

With passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers all posting substantial year-on-year gains, the latest SIAM figures indicate that demand across major segments of India’s automobile market remained robust at the start of FY2026-27.

The industry will now enter the crucial festive season with July sales providing a strong foundation for the coming months.
