Hyundai India Introduces Usage-Based Insurance for Bluelink Customers; Offers Up to 15% Savings

Gurugram, India, November 5, 2026: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced the introduction of Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) for eligible Bluelink customers, offering potential savings on vehicle insurance premiums based on individual driving behaviour. Powered by Hyundai’s connected-car technology, the initiative will reward safer driving habits through personalised driving scores and insurance benefits.

Announced on November 5, 2026, the programme aims to make vehicle ownership safer and more rewarding by linking responsible driving behaviour with potential savings on insurance premiums. Under the initiative, eligible Hyundai customers can receive a personalised UBI score based on their vehicle usage and driving patterns.

Customers with higher driving scores may benefit from reduced insurance premiums at the time of renewal, with savings of up to 15% possible on the own-damage component of the insurance premium, subject to the participating insurer’s underwriting rules.

How Hyundai’s Usage-Based Insurance programme works

Hyundai’s UBI programme uses data generated directly from vehicles through the company’s Bluelink connected-car platform. Eligible customers will receive a driving score based on their driving behaviour, which participating insurance companies can use as part of their underwriting process to determine potential insurance benefits.

Hyundai India Insurance Broking (HIIB) will act as an intermediary between HMIL and participating insurance companies. It will facilitate the sharing of customer-consented driving scores, enabling eligible customers to access personalised insurance benefits.

The initiative is based on the principle that safer drivers should have the opportunity to benefit from lower insurance premiums. Unlike conventional insurance models, which do not necessarily account for individual driving behaviour, the UBI programme introduces a more personalised approach to insurance pricing.

Driving behaviour parameters used to calculate UBI scores

The Hyundai UBI driving scorecard will evaluate driving behaviour recorded over the previous three months. The assessment will use vehicle-generated data collected through the Bluelink platform, eliminating the need for customers to install additional devices or hardware.

The key parameters considered while calculating the driving score include:

  • Driving dynamics: Rapid acceleration, rapid deceleration and rapid braking.
  • Speed control: Assessment of driving behaviour related to speed.
  • Idling behaviour: Evaluation of vehicle idling patterns.

These parameters will help participating insurers assess individual driving patterns and determine eligibility for potential insurance benefits.

How customers can check their Hyundai UBI driving scores

Eligible Hyundai customers whose insurance renewal is due within the next 90 days will be able to view their UBI driving scores through the Bluelink app and explore potential insurance savings.

A driving score of 70 or above may make customers eligible for insurance benefits, subject to the underwriting policies, terms and conditions of the participating insurance company.

Customers scoring below the threshold will also have the opportunity to improve their driving behaviour. The Bluelink app will provide personalised driving tips to help them adopt safer driving habits and potentially qualify for insurance benefits in the future.

Hyundai expands its connected-car ecosystem

Commenting on the initiative, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said the company’s connected-car ecosystem has already surpassed 0.8 million connected cars on Indian roads. Hyundai is targeting one million cumulative connected-car sales by 2027 and aims to reach two million by 2030 through its Bluelink platform.

He added that the Usage-Based Insurance programme extends the benefits of connected mobility beyond convenience and safety by rewarding responsible driving with personalised insurance benefits.

According to Garg, customers could potentially save up to 15% on the own-damage component of their insurance premiums, depending on the participating insurers’ underwriting rules.
