Marc Marquez Undergoes Successful Double Surgery After French GP Crash, Ruled Out of Catalan GP
Madrid, Spain, May 10, 2026: Marc Marquez is recovering in hospital after successfully undergoing double surgery in Madrid following his dramatic crash during the Sprint race at the French Grand Prix.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider underwent surgery at the prestigious Ruber Internacional Hospital on Monday morning after suffering a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot during Saturday’s highside accident at Le Mans.
Successful Surgery for Foot Fracture and Shoulder Injury
According to the medical update released by Ducati, the surgical procedures were successfully carried out by a specialist team led by Dr. Samuel Antuña, alongside doctors Ignacio Roger de Oña, Andrés Maldonado, Jorge de las Heras, Raúl Barco, and Juan de Miguel.
The first operation focused on stabilising the fracture in Márquez’s right foot, which he sustained during the violent crash in the closing stages of the Sprint race at Le Mans.
At the same time, Márquez also underwent a second pre-planned procedure on his right shoulder to address lingering pain linked to a previous injury.
Doctors removed two screws and a displaced bone fragment from a prior Latarjet surgery performed in December 2019. The issue reportedly worsened after the six-time MotoGP world champion suffered another heavy impact during the 2025 Indonesian Grand Prix, with the shifted fragment compressing the radial nerve.
Marc Marquez to Miss Catalan GP
As previously confirmed, Márquez will miss next week’s Catalan Grand Prix as he begins rehabilitation following the surgeries.
The Spanish superstar is expected to remain overnight at the Madrid hospital before returning home to start his recovery programme. Ducati stated that the timeline for his return to racing will depend entirely on his rehabilitation progress over the coming weeks.
The injury setback comes at a difficult stage in the 2026 MotoGP title battle, especially after Márquez’s championship hopes suffered another blow during the French GP weekend.
Major Blow for Ducati Lenovo Team
Márquez had shown flashes of strong pace throughout the Le Mans weekend before crashing heavily during the Sprint race. The incident ruled him out of Sunday’s Grand Prix and now sidelines him from at least the upcoming Catalan round.
His absence represents a significant challenge for Ducati in the championship fight, with rivals including Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi gaining momentum after Aprilia’s dominant weekend in France.
Fans and riders across the MotoGP paddock have already sent messages of support to Márquez as the Spaniard begins another recovery journey in his illustrious career.
