Tesla Opens New Destination Charging Station in Thane, Launches Refer and Earn Programme in India
Thane, India, August 12, 2026: Tesla has expanded its charging network in India with the inauguration of a new Destination Charging station at Lake Shore Thane, while also launching its Refer and Earn programme for existing Tesla owners in the country.
Located in the UB parking area at Lake Shore Thane, the new charging facility features four Tesla Destination Chargers, each offering 11 kW AC charging. The location is designed to provide Tesla owners with a convenient charging option while they shop or dine at the destination.
Tesla says the charging site offers a 99.95% uptime, supporting a reliable “Plug In, Charge and Go” experience for customers in Thane and surrounding areas.
Tesla hosts first Experience event in Thane
Alongside the charging station inauguration, Tesla is hosting its first Tesla Experience in Thane at the Lake Shore Thane Courtyard from August 12 to August 19, 2026.
Visitors will be able to explore the Tesla Model Y and Model Y L through guided walkarounds and interactive product experiences. Customers interested in driving the electric SUVs can also book test drives through Tesla’s website.
The event gives prospective buyers an opportunity to experience Tesla’s latest SUV offerings while learning more about their technology, features and performance.
Tesla launches Refer and Earn programme in India
Tesla has also introduced its Refer and Earn programme in India, allowing existing Tesla owners to refer friends and family members interested in purchasing a Tesla.
Under the programme, Tesla owners can earn ₹11,000 towards Supercharging or a new Tesla for every person they refer who subsequently takes delivery of a Tesla.
In addition, the first 10 people who order a new Tesla using a referral link will receive ₹22,000 off their purchase price.
The referral initiative is aimed at strengthening Tesla’s customer community in India while encouraging existing owners to introduce more customers to the brand and accelerate EV adoption.
Tesla Model Y and Model Y L prices in India
The 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is equipped with the latest updates, including Grok AI, and offers 2,138 litres of cargo space with seating for up to five occupants.
The Model Y can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and offers a claimed range of up to 500 km under the WLTP cycle.
The Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is priced at ₹50.89 lakh, while the available finance offer starts at an EMI of ₹39,990, with a down payment starting from ₹6 lakh.
The larger Tesla Model Y L is an all-wheel-drive electric SUV with a three-row, six-seat configuration. It offers up to 2,539 litres of cargo capacity and has been designed to maximise passenger headroom and legroom.
The Model Y L offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 681 km and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.
Prices for the Tesla Model Y L start at ₹61.99 lakh, with the company’s finance offer featuring a monthly EMI starting at ₹49,990 and a down payment as low as ₹6.50 lakh.
Tesla India charging network expands to seven locations
With the commissioning of the Lake Shore Thane facility, Tesla now operates seven charging locations across India, comprising 20 Superchargers and 24 Destination Chargers.
Tesla’s current Indian charging network includes locations in Thane, Gurugram, Delhi, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
