MotoGP British GP 2026: Raul Fernandez Wins at Silverstone as Aprilia Secures 1-2-3

Silverstone, United Kingdom, August 9, 2026: Raul Fernandez delivered a dominant performance at Silverstone to claim his second MotoGP Grand Prix victory and his first win of the 2026 season, leading an Aprilia Racing 1-2-3 at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain.

The SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider produced a flawless race from the front, grabbing the holeshot from P2 and never relinquishing the lead. Fernandez crossed the chequered flag 2.5 seconds ahead of championship leader Jorge Martin, while Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium to give Aprilia a clean sweep of the top three.

The victory also saw Fernandez become the 12th different winner in the last 12 British Grands Prix, underlining the extraordinary competitiveness of MotoGP at Silverstone.

The 2026 season has now produced seven different Grand Prix winners, matching the total number of different race winners recorded throughout the entire 2025 season.

Fernandez makes perfect start at Silverstone

Starting from second on the grid, Fernandez made an exceptional getaway and swept into the lead at Turn 1, ahead of Bezzecchi. Pole-sitter Martin was immediately involved in a battle with teammate Ai Ogura, allowing Marc Marquez to briefly move into third place.

Martin quickly responded, but Fernandez was already beginning to establish a significant advantage.

By Lap 3, the Spaniard had set a new race lap record and extended his lead to around two seconds. From there, Fernandez controlled the race with impressive composure, never allowing his rivals a realistic opportunity to challenge for victory.

The win was particularly significant for Fernandez after his Saturday disappointment, with the Trackhouse rider producing the perfect response on race day.

Multiple crashes shake up the order

While Fernandez disappeared into the distance, the battle behind him was dramatically reshaped by a series of crashes.

Ogura dropped down to seventh after his early battles, while Alex Marquez moved into fifth and began closing in on Marc Marquez.

The race then entered a chaotic phase between Laps 6 and 8.

Enea Bastianini crashed at Turn 17, followed by Iker Lecuona at Turn 12 and Cal Crutchlow at Turn 6. Francesco Bagnaia then suffered another fall at Turn 7 on Lap 8, the same corner where he crashed during last year’s British Grand Prix.

The incidents continued to alter the points-scoring positions as riders struggled to maintain their pace around the demanding Silverstone circuit.

Ai Ogura suffers costly crash

One of the biggest championship developments came on Lap 9 when Ai Ogura crashed at Turn 16.

The Trackhouse rider had been fighting for a strong result but saw his hopes of challenging for second place in the championship disappear into the gravel.

At the same time, Martin made his move on Bezzecchi to take second position, while Alex Marquez briefly moved into third.

Alex Marquez subsequently made a mistake at Turn 1 and dropped to fifth, although he recovered to fourth by passing Pedro Acosta.

Di Giannantonio beats Marc Marquez in late battle

With five laps remaining, Fernandez had built a lead of more than four seconds over Martin and Bezzecchi.

Martin attempted to reduce the deficit, bringing the gap down from 4.0 seconds to 3.4 seconds and then 3.1 seconds. However, Fernandez remained firmly in control and never looked seriously threatened.

Further down the order, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marc Marquez renewed their battle during the closing stages. The VR46 rider eventually got the better of the reigning World Champion at Turn 3 on Lap 18 before setting his sights on Acosta.

Marc Marquez ultimately finished seventh, missing out on a top-six result and valuable championship points.

Fernandez completes dominant Silverstone victory

Fernandez remained untouchable at the front and comfortably crossed the finish line to secure his first Grand Prix victory of 2026.

The Spaniard’s 2.5-second winning margin was enough to seal a memorable Silverstone triumph and his second MotoGP Grand Prix victory.

Jorge Martin finished second to strengthen his position at the top of the championship, while Marco Bezzecchi completed the all-Aprilia podium.

Alex Marquez was the leading Ducati rider in fourth, followed by Pedro Acosta in fifth and Fabio Di Giannantonio in sixth.

Marc Marquez finished seventh, ahead of Brad Binder, who secured his first run of back-to-back top-10 finishes of the 2026 season.

Luca Marini was the highest-placed Honda rider in ninth, while Diogo Moreira completed the top 10.

Jorge Martin extends MotoGP championship lead

The British Grand Prix has further strengthened Martin’s grip on the 2026 MotoGP World Championship.

Martin now holds a 31-point advantage over teammate Marco Bezzecchi, with both riders representing Aprilia. The result also means the top three in the championship are all Aprilia riders.

Marc Marquez, meanwhile, is now 40 points behind Martin and will be looking to bounce back at the Aragon Grand Prix.

With 10 rounds still remaining, the 2026 MotoGP season continues to produce unpredictable results, with seven different Grand Prix winners already emerging.

Silverstone once again delivered a historic result, with Raul Fernandez becoming the latest addition to the remarkable list of different British GP winners.
