The Classic Himalayan Drive 2025: From Corbett to Mussoorie — A Journey of Wilderness, Worship, and Winding Roads
Rallyists experience the untamed beauty of Corbett, spiritual calm in Rishikesh, and royal hospitality in Mussoorie on Day Three and Four of India’s most iconic motoring expedition.
Corbett Awakens with the Call of the Wild
Day three of The Classic Himalayan Drive 2025 began at dawn amid the misty forests of Corbett National Park, where participants traded revving engines for the hum of nature. A guided Jeep Safari took them deep into the wilderness — past herds of spotted deer, sambar, mischievous langurs, and darting jackals — offering an authentic taste of India’s raw natural splendour.
As the sun rose higher, engines roared back to life for the Corbett to Rishikesh leg. The route unfurled through shimmering canals and causeways, framed by the lush expanse of the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. Golden sunlight glinted off polished chrome, creating postcard-perfect moments that celebrated both man and machine.
Rishikesh: Serenity Meets Spirit
On reaching Rishikesh, the rallyists checked into their tranquil riverside resort. Evening brought a soulful pause as participants gathered for the Ganga Arti, where chants, bells, and the glow of diyas reflected off the sacred river. The mighty Himalayas loomed in the distance, a timeless witness to the unity of spirit, road, and sky.
A lavish high tea followed by a hearty buffet dinner rounded off the day — a perfect blend of adventure and reflection that defines The Classic Himalayan Drive experience.
River Rush and Mountain Roads
The following morning, adrenaline replaced reverence as participants took on the rapids of the Ganges in a thrilling river rafting session. The laughter, splashes, and cheers echoed through the valley, proving that this rally is as much about friendship as it is about fuel.
Post-breakfast, the convoy departed for Mussoorie, retracing the historic route of the Old Himalayan Rally via Chamba and Dhanaulti. Winding mountain roads, sharp hairpins, and breathtaking Himalayan vistas reignited the essence of vintage motoring — pure, unfiltered, and unforgettable.
A Royal Welcome at Welcomhotel The Savoy, Mussoorie
Arriving in Mussoorie, rallyists were greeted with regal hospitality at the iconic Welcomhotel The Savoy. The check-in was steeped in nostalgia, featuring a photo gallery of past Himalayan Drives. The highlight was a special video message from legendary author Ruskin Bond, who extended his warm wishes to the participants.
The day continued with an elegant Welcome Tea and the festive Cake Mixing Ceremony, marking the start of Christmas celebrations in the hills. Later, the classic cars took to Mall Road in a spectacular vintage parade, delighting tourists and locals alike with their timeless charm.
The evening culminated in a Gala Dinner at The Savoy — a night of music, laughter, and camaraderie that celebrated both the heritage of motoring and the joy of shared journeys.
Flag-Off to Theog: The Journey Continues
At sunrise, participants assembled for the next chapter — the 275-kilometre drive from Mussoorie to Theog, via Nayagaon, Purola, Hatkoti, Rohru, and Jubbal. The flag-off ceremony was graced by Mr. Kishore Kaya, owner of The Savoy, and Mr. Ganesh Saili, noted author and historian.
Mr. Saili aptly described the Himalayas as “a storyteller’s paradise,” while Mr. Kaya highlighted The Savoy’s enduring bond with travellers and explorers. With a wave of the chequered flag, the engines roared once more, and the convoy set off — a moving tapestry of chrome and colour weaving through the mountains, writing new stories on every turn.
