Marc Marquez Triumphs Over Bezzecchi in San Marino GP Thriller, Sets Up First 2025 Title Match Point

Misano, September 14, 2025 – The Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera delivered a dramatic Sunday showdown, as Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) emerged victorious after a fierce battle with home hero Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing). The #93 rider crossed the line just 0.568s ahead of Bezzecchi, with his brother Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) completing the podium in a special livery honouring the late Fausto Gresini.

Marquez Back on Top After Saturday Sprint Crash

Bouncing back from his Sprint crash on Saturday, Marc Marquez returned with extra determination, even setting the fastest lap on Lap 25. The win not only secured vital Championship points but also set up his first 2025 World Championship match point in Japan.

Marc Marquez said:
“The best way to forget the mistake is to come back and give my best, and that’s what I did today. The last laps were tough against Marco, who pushed super hard at his home GP. It’s getting closer and closer—it looks like just a matter of time for the title, but I want to stay focused until the end.”

Bezzecchi Delivers for the Home Crowd

Despite narrowly missing out on victory, Marco Bezzecchi enjoyed a strong weekend with pole position, a Sprint win, and second place on Sunday. The Italian briefly led the race before a mistake at Turn 8 allowed Marquez through.

Bezzecchi reflected:
“It was a beautiful but tough race. Of course, my target was the win, but Marc was super fast. I made a small mistake, and he passed me. Still, I stayed close and I’m happy with my pace and the points.”

Alex Marquez Secures Valuable Podium

Alex Marquez added another solid performance to his 2025 campaign, finishing second in Saturday’s Sprint and third in Sunday’s race. Despite losing time in sector one, Alex managed to keep consistent pace and extend his advantage over Francesco Bagnaia in the standings.

“I’m really happy with our weekend. Marco and Marc were faster all along, but I gave my best. Sector one is my weak spot here, and it’s something I need to improve for the future,” Alex admitted.

Acosta Retires With Mechanical Issue

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) showed competitive pace after a tough start to the weekend but suffered a heartbreaking retirement due to a chain issue on Lap 8. Despite the setback, the rookie remained positive:
“It is what it is. It’s a mechanical sport—these things can happen. The team turned things around from a difficult weekend, and I felt strong before the issue.”

Fernandez Debuts Yamaha V4 in Race Conditions

Another major storyline was Augusto Fernandez (Yamaha Factory Racing) debuting Yamaha’s new V4 engine in a race for the first time. He finished P14, gaining critical insight ahead of the upcoming Misano Test.
“The window is very narrow—we need to work a lot. I had to manage fuel from Lap 10, which limited our pace. Still, the potential is there, and it’s one second off Fabio’s fastest lap,” Fernandez explained.

Looking Ahead: Championship Match Point in Japan

Marc Marquez leaves Misano with a chance to clinch the 2025 MotoGP World Championship at Motegi. With his form peaking at the right moment, all eyes now turn to Japan for what could be a historic weekend.
