Aprilia’s Bezzecchi Targets Sixth Straight Win as MotoGP Heads to Spanish GP at Jerez
Jerez, Spain, April 21, 2026: The 2026 MotoGP World Championship season rolls into Europe this weekend with the spotlight firmly on Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia Racing, who arrive at the Spanish Grand Prix on the back of a historic run of dominance.
Aprilia Dominance Sets the Tone
After a record-breaking weekend at the Americas Grand Prix, Bezzecchi has surged to the top of the standings with five consecutive wins and an incredible 121 laps led. The Italian rider has been virtually untouchable on Sundays, establishing himself as the early championship favourite.
However, the challenge intensifies as the paddock lands at the iconic Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto, where a passionate home crowd will rally behind local heroes.
Martin vs Bezzecchi: Aprilia’s Internal Battle Heats Up
One of the biggest storylines heading into Jerez is the intra-team rivalry between Bezzecchi and reigning champion Jorge Martin. The Spaniard, just four points behind in the standings, has rediscovered form with a Sprint win and Grand Prix podium in Texas.
With over 100,000 Spanish fans expected, Martin will enjoy strong home support as he looks to halt Bezzecchi’s winning streak. The Aprilia duo head into Round 4 with targets firmly on their backs.
KTM’s Acosta Leads the Chase
Pedro Acosta has emerged as the chief challenger for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. Despite missing out on a podium due to a penalty in Austin, Acosta showed strong pace and now sits 21 points behind Bezzecchi.
Teammate Brad Binder will be aiming for a turnaround, while Enea Bastianini heads into Jerez with momentum after inheriting a podium finish in the United States.
Ducati Searching for Answers at Jerez
All eyes will also be on Marc Marquez and the Ducati Lenovo Team. Despite securing two Sprint medals this season, Marquez is yet to stand on a Sunday podium in 2026 and trails Bezzecchi by 36 points.
Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia faces pressure after a difficult start to the campaign, sitting ninth in the standings despite a dominant record at Jerez in recent years.
Independent Ducati riders are also in focus, with Fabio Di Giannantonio leading the charge after consistent top-six finishes, while Alex Marquez returns to the circuit where he claimed a memorable victory last season.
Midfield Battles and Rising Storylines
Further down the grid, Joan Mir and Honda HRC Castrol continue to show flashes of progress despite inconsistent results.
At Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo will be hoping to replicate his strong 2025 Jerez performance, while Toprak Razgatlioglu continues adapting to MotoGP machinery after scoring his first point in Austin.
A Classic Venue Awaits
As MotoGP returns to one of its most iconic venues, the Spanish Grand Prix promises high drama, fierce rivalries, and a charged atmosphere. Whether Bezzecchi can extend his winning streak or a home favourite rises to the occasion remains the key question heading into a pivotal European leg of the season.
With championship momentum, home support, and team rivalries all converging, Jerez is set to deliver another thrilling chapter in the 2026 MotoGP season.
