Kia Sorento Launched in India at ₹27.99 Lakh, Gets Hybrid and Diesel Powertrains
New Delhi, India, September 4, 2026: Kia India has officially launched the Kia Sorento in the Indian market, marking the company’s entry into the premium three-row SUV segment. Prices for the new Kia Sorento start at ₹27.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel variant, while the Sorento Hybrid starts at ₹29.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Kia Sorento also marks two significant milestones for the company in India. It is Kia India’s first hybrid model, while the India-spec SUV also becomes the global debut model for the brand’s Kia AI Assistant with Real-Time Generative AI capabilities.
Official deliveries of the Kia Sorento begin across India from September 4, 2026. The SUV is locally manufactured at Kia India’s Anantapur facility and is based on Kia’s global N3 platform.
Kia Sorento Powertrain Options
The new Kia Sorento is available with a choice of Hybrid and Diesel powertrains.
The hybrid version uses a Smartstream 1.6-litre Turbo GDI Hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine develops 180 PS and 265 Nm, while the electric motor produces 65 PS and 264 Nm. The hybrid system is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The SUV is also offered with a Smartstream 2.2-litre diesel engine, producing 193 PS and 442 Nm, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (8DCT).
Both powertrains are available with All-Wheel Drive (AWD), while Drive Mode Select offers Eco, Normal, Smart and Sport modes. The Sorento Hybrid becomes the first SUV in its segment, according to Kia, to offer a hybrid powertrain with AWD. Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes are also available with AWD-equipped versions.
Kia Sorento Dimensions and Exterior Design
The new Kia Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,785 mm in height with roof rails and has a 2,815 mm wheelbase.
Kia says the Sorento is the longest and widest SUV in its segment, giving it a commanding stance and providing a spacious foundation for its three-row configuration.
The SUV features Kia’s Digital Tiger Face, Crystal Cube LED Projection Headlamps and Star Map LED daytime running lights with progressive turn signals. Star Map LED tail lamps, satin-chrome skid plates, a satin-chrome beltline and an integrated rear spoiler further distinguish its exterior design.
Depending on the variant, customers can choose between 18-inch Sporty Crystal Cut alloy wheels and 19-inch Premium Crystal Cut alloy wheels.
Premium Three-Row Cabin With 6- and 7-Seater Options
The Kia Sorento is available in six- and seven-seater configurations, catering to customers looking for either captain-seat comfort or greater seating capacity.
The cabin features a 31.24 cm (12.3-inch) HD touchscreen navigation cockpit and a matching 31.24 cm HD digital instrument cluster integrated into a panoramic curved display panel.
Other highlights include a Windshield Head-Up Display, Advanced Digital IRVM, dual-pane panoramic sunroof and 64-colour ambient mood lighting. Two interior themes are available, including Smoky Black & Grey and a Black & Olive Brown theme on the top HTX trim.
The Sorento’s first-row seats offer 10-way power adjustment with lumbar support, while relaxation seats, memory functions and an Ergo Motion driver seat add to the premium experience.
One of the key features is three-step ventilated seating for the second row, which Kia describes as a first-in-segment feature. The six-seater version gets second-row captain seats, while the seven-seater uses 60:40 split rear seats. Both configurations feature slide, recline and walk-in functionality.
Kia AI Assistant Debuts Globally on India-Spec Sorento
One of the biggest technology highlights of the new Kia Sorento is the Kia AI Assistant with Real-Time Generative AI capabilities.
The India-spec Sorento is the first Kia model globally to introduce the technology and the first vehicle in its segment, according to Kia, to offer this capability.
The conversational AI system uses real-time search to provide information and can understand follow-up questions. It also integrates vehicle-specific intelligence through the owner’s manual and supports the “Hey Kia” wake word.
The system can also control selected vehicle functions, including the air-conditioning and windows.
The Sorento additionally gets Kia Connect 2.0 with more than 85 connected-car features, OTA software updates for up to 30 controllers, Digital Key 2.0, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Kia will also introduce personalised display themes based on Disney, Marvel and Pixar characters, with nine themes available. The Kia Connect Store is scheduled to launch for the Sorento in December 2026, with Display Themes set to be its first Feature on Demand offering.
30 ADAS Features and Up to 10 Airbags
Safety is another major focus of the new Kia Sorento. The SUV gets Level 2+ ADAS with 30 autonomous features, including Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist.
Kia’s Robust 26 Standard Safety Package includes seven airbags, while the top-line variants receive three additional airbags, taking the total to 10 airbags.
The SUV also gets a 360-degree camera, Blind View Monitor, 12 parking sensors, five radars and a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines.
Kia Sorento India Variants and Prices
The Kia Sorento is available in three base trims, with option packs offered across its Hybrid and Diesel powertrains. Both six- and seven-seat configurations are available depending on the variant.
The entry-level diesel seven-seater is priced at ₹27.99 lakh, while the hybrid seven-seater starts at ₹29.49 lakh, both ex-showroom.
The range extends up to ₹40.39 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Hybrid 6-seater HTX(A) Black Line AWD variant.

Kia Sorento Colours and Black Line Variant
The new Sorento is offered in eight monotone exterior colours: Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Imperial Blue, Magma Red, Pewter Olive, Ivory Silver Gloss, Aurora Black Pearl and matte Dark Gun Metal.
Kia is also introducing an exclusive Black Line trim for the first time in its Indian line-up. It gets blacked-out exterior elements, including the Kia and Sorento badges, 19-inch Premium Crystal Cut alloy wheels, fender garnish and beltline.
Kia Sorento: Made in India for Indian Customers
The Kia Sorento is manufactured locally at Kia India’s Anantapur facility. The company says the India-spec SUV incorporates developments made around Indian road conditions and customer requirements.
These include India-specific grille detailing, Black High Glossy Bridge Type roof rails and an acoustic windshield. Kia has also focused on cabin refinement and second-row comfort for long-distance family travel.
With the Sorento, Kia is entering a new premium three-row SUV category in India while simultaneously introducing its first hybrid powertrain and a globally debuting generative-AI-powered in-car assistant.
