Colton Herta to Drive in Four FP1 Sessions for Cadillac Formula 1 Team in 2026
Silverstone, UK, April 17, 2026: Colton Herta has been confirmed to participate in four Free Practice 1 (FP1) sessions for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team during the 2026 Formula 1 season, marking a significant step in the young American’s progression toward the pinnacle of motorsport.
The 26-year-old from Santa Clarita, California, will make his FP1 debut at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, followed by three additional appearances later in the season. These sessions will represent his first official Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend outings with the team.
Herta’s FP1 programme is designed to accelerate his development by providing real-time track experience in a competitive race weekend environment. Until now, he has been closely working with the team through simulator sessions based in Charlotte.
“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team car for the first time,” said Herta. “I’m looking forward to contributing to the team across race weekends and supporting both Checo and Valtteri while learning as much as possible.”
The announcement follows a promising start to Herta’s campaign in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, where he impressed on debut at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne by finishing seventh in the Feature Race and securing valuable points.
Cadillac Formula 1 Team Principal Graeme Lowdon praised Herta’s rapid progress, stating that the FP1 outings are a “natural next step” in his role as Test Driver. He highlighted the American’s strong racing pedigree, including his performances in the NTT IndyCar Series.
Team CEO Dan Towriss added that the sessions will provide Herta with critical exposure to the demands of a full Formula 1 race weekend, both on and off the track.
In addition to his Formula 1 commitments, Herta is also set to compete during the Miami Grand Prix weekend, where Formula 2 will race at the Miami Autodrome for the first time.
With growing momentum across multiple racing platforms, Herta’s FP1 appearances could play a crucial role in shaping his future within Formula 1.
