Marc Marquez Ends Red Bull Ring Jinx with Historic Win in MotoGP’s 1000th Race

The Red Bull Ring curse is finally broken for Marc Marquez. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider delivered a masterclass to clinch victory at the bwin Grand Prix of Austria, making it six consecutive full-length race wins and securing MotoGP’s landmark 1000th race triumph.

Marquez, the runaway 2025 MotoGP World Championship leader, had to dig deep against Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) and rookie sensation Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), who both led the #93 into thrilling on-track battles before the six-time premier class champion stamped his authority on proceedings.

Bezzecchi Leads Early, Marquez Chases

From pole, Bezzecchi nailed the start and held off Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), who tried to dive for the holeshot. Marquez wasted little time, dispatching his teammate Bagnaia on Lap 2 at Turn 3 before setting his sights on the Aprilia up front.

By Lap 8, the gap had shrunk to just 0.2s, with Marquez relentlessly shadowing Bezzecchi. Behind, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Aldeguer were carving through the pack, while Bagnaia slipped backwards in the heat of battle.

The Turning Point: Marquez vs Bezzecchi

The defining duel came on Lap 18. Marquez lunged inside Bezzecchi at Turn 3 and briefly led, only for the Italian to counter at Turn 6. But the writing was on the wall—by Lap 20, Marquez forced his way through at Turn 1, a move that proved decisive.

Bezzecchi’s resistance faltered just as Aldeguer stormed into contention. The 19-year-old Spaniard showed blistering pace, carving past Acosta and then Bezzecchi to climb into second place with four laps to go.

Aldeguer Pushes Late, Marquez Holds Firm

With three laps left, Aldeguer had slashed Marquez’s lead to just 0.7s. The rookie looked poised to cause an upset, but the veteran kept his cool. Marquez extended the gap back to 0.9s and brought it home to secure his first-ever full-race win at the Red Bull Ring and Ducati Lenovo Team’s latest triumph.

Bezzecchi crossed the line in P3 for his second podium in succession, marking a strong run of form for the Italian.
