JSW Motors Partners with Tata IIS to Build EV Talent Pipeline for Maharashtra Plant

JSW Motors Limited, the new energy vehicle (NEV) arm of the JSW Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Indian Institute of Skills (Tata IIS) to establish a structured technical talent pipeline ahead of the commissioning of its greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The collaboration marks the first step in JSW Motors’ broader strategy to build an industry-leading EV skilling ecosystem — one that begins at the plant floor and extends across the entire manufacturing value chain.

EV-Focused Curriculum Tailored to JSW Motors

Under the partnership, Tata IIS will co-develop a JSW Motors-specific curriculum covering:

  • Electric vehicle (EV) systems
  • Automation technologies
  • Advanced welding techniques
  • CNC operations
  • Battery systems
  • Advanced manufacturing processes

JSW Motors will retain hiring control and curriculum validation rights, ensuring the programme remains closely aligned with its production requirements and plant ramp-up timelines.

Rupam Singh, Chief Human Resources Officer at JSW Motors Limited, emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative:

“At JSW Motors, skilling is not an HR function, it is a business imperative. As we build our manufacturing operations, we need people who are ready from Day One. The Tata IIS partnership gives us structured capability, relevant curriculum, and execution rigour aligned to our timelines. This is a deliberate bridge as we work towards building our own world-class training academy.”

Strengthening India’s EV Manufacturing Ecosystem

Tata IIS was selected after a competitive evaluation of leading skilling institutions across India. The institute stood out for its industry-grade training infrastructure, strong OEM engagement track record, and application-based learning methodology tailored to modern EV manufacturing demands.

The partnership also builds upon the existing relationship between Tata IIS and JSW Foundation, reinforcing Group-level skilling initiatives.

Venguswamy Ramaswamy, CEO Designate at Tata Indian Institute of Skills, said:

“At Tata IIS, our mission is to solve the nation’s skill challenges by creating a next-generation workforce that is not just job-ready, but future-ready. This partnership with JSW Motors is a significant step toward that goal. By designing bespoke programs in Advanced Manufacturing, we are equipping India’s youth with the high-precision skills required to drive the next generation of automotive excellence and ensuring a robust, consistent talent pipeline for our industry partners.”

Beyond the Factory Floor: A Long-Term Skilling Vision

JSW Motors’ skilling roadmap extends beyond its immediate manufacturing workforce. The company plans to integrate supplier and vendor partners, dealer networks, and end customers into a broader EV-ready ecosystem.

As the business scales, JSW Motors aims to establish a dedicated in-house training academy focused on advanced manufacturing and future mobility technologies. This initiative will position the company as a capability leader aligned with its long-term new energy vehicle manufacturing ambitions.
