Bridgestone Named Official Formula E Tyre Supplier for GEN4 Era

Rome, Italy, October 1, 2026: Bridgestone Corporation has been named the official tyre supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2026/27 season, as the all-electric championship prepares to enter the new GEN4 era.

The multi-year partnership was announced in Rome, Italy, following a joint event involving Formula E, the FIA and Bridgestone. The companies also unveiled Bridgestone’s new POTENZA GEN4 tyres alongside the GEN4 Formula E show car.

The partnership will see Bridgestone become the sole tyre supplier to Formula E as the championship introduces its fastest and most powerful generation of race cars.

Bridgestone POTENZA GEN4 tyres developed for Formula E

The new GEN4 Formula E car delivers a major increase in performance, with 600kW (815bhp) of peak power, permanent active All-Wheel Drive and a claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 1.8 seconds.

To match the increased power, torque and dynamic capabilities of the GEN4 car, Bridgestone has developed a bespoke high-performance POTENZA GEN4 tyre range.

The all-weather POTENZA GEN4 tyre has been engineered to provide high grip, durability and adaptability across Formula E’s wide range of temporary street circuits and road conditions.

Bridgestone says the tyre has been designed to maintain performance throughout races while supporting the close wheel-to-wheel racing that is a key feature of Formula E.

POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE

Alongside the standard all-weather tyre, Bridgestone has introduced the POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE, a heavy-wet specification designed for severe rain conditions.

The tyre is engineered to provide increased grip and stability in heavy rain, allowing Formula E racing to continue safely in challenging weather conditions.

65% recycled and renewable materials

Sustainability remains a major focus of the new Formula E tyre programme. Bridgestone says the GEN4 tyre range incorporates 65% recycled and renewable materials.

The materials include carbon black derived from end-of-life tyre pyrolysis oil, silica sourced from rice husks and natural rubber compliant with the standards of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR).

Bridgestone also says production of the tyres uses 100% renewable energy for heat and electricity. Freight operations will use lower-carbon logistics solutions through its partnership with DHL.

The approach is intended to support Formula E’s focus on reducing the environmental impact of motorsport while also demonstrating technologies and materials that could have relevance beyond racing.

Bridgestone to sponsor four Formula E race weekends

The partnership extends beyond tyre supply. Bridgestone will also become the Official Race Title Sponsor for four Formula E race weekends during the 2026/27 season.

The races covered by the title sponsorship will be held in:

  • Mexico City
  • Berlin
  • Shanghai
  • Tokyo, which hosts the season finale

The 2026/27 season will therefore mark the beginning of Bridgestone’s involvement with Formula E at a particularly significant point in the championship’s development.

Formula E enters the GEN4 era

The arrival of GEN4 represents a major performance step for Formula E. With 600kW of peak power, permanent active all-wheel drive and 1.8-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, the new car is positioned as the fastest and most powerful Formula E machine to date.

Bridgestone’s role will be particularly important as the tyre becomes a key link between the increased performance of the GEN4 car and the temporary street circuits on which Formula E competes.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said Bridgestone’s motorsport heritage and focus on sustainable innovation made it a suitable partner for the championship’s next phase.

Bridgestone Global CEO and Representative Executive Officer Yasuhiro Morita said the company’s return to an FIA World Championship represents an opportunity to combine its motorsport experience with its focus on performance and sustainability.

The FIA also highlighted the importance of the tyres in delivering the performance and efficiency expected from the GEN4 cars, while supporting close and competitive racing.

The 2026/27 Formula E season will consequently mark the start of a new technical chapter for the championship, with the GEN4 car and Bridgestone’s POTENZA GEN4 tyres combining increased performance with a greater emphasis on sustainable materials and production.
