MotoGP Extends Mugello Deal Until 2031 for Italian Grand Prix

Mugello, Italy, September 25, 2026: MotoGP will continue racing at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello through the end of the 2031 season, after extending its agreement with the iconic Italian circuit to host the Italian Grand Prix.

The new deal secures the long-term future of the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, one of the championship’s most historic and celebrated venues. The circuit is renowned for its fast layout, spectacular Tuscan setting and passionate Italian fans, and has remained a key fixture on the MotoGP calendar for decades.

The latest agreement comes after Mugello recorded a record 178,723 spectators across the 2026 Italian Grand Prix weekend, highlighting the continuing popularity of the event among MotoGP fans.

MotoGP Mugello deal extended through 2031

Mugello celebrated 50 years since hosting its first motorcycle Grand Prix in 2025, marking five decades of motorcycle racing at the Tuscan venue. The circuit has subsequently become one of the defining locations on the MotoGP calendar.

MotoGP Deputy CEO Carlos Ezpeleta described Mugello as one of the championship’s spiritual homes and highlighted the unique combination of Italian fan passion and MotoGP history associated with the venue.

“Mugello is much more than a Grand Prix venue. It is one of the spiritual homes of MotoGP, where the passion of the Italian fans and the history of our sport create an atmosphere unlike any other,” Ezpeleta said.

He added that the circuit continues to demonstrate why it remains one of the most special events on the MotoGP calendar, with the new agreement securing its place in the championship’s future.

Mugello targets continued international growth

The contract extension also provides a longer-term foundation for the continued development of the Mugello Circuit.

Paolo Poli, CEO and Director of Mugello Circuit, said the agreement through 2031 demonstrates the commitment of the circuit, together with Ferrari, to its future.

The renewal, according to Poli, will provide a foundation for the continued development of Mugello and help maintain its position as an important international racing venue.

The Italian Grand Prix’s history at Mugello dates back to 1976, when the Tuscan circuit first hosted a motorcycle Grand Prix. The 2025 anniversary therefore marked half a century of motorcycle Grand Prix racing at the venue.

With the new agreement, Mugello will continue its association with MotoGP into the next decade, extending one of the championship’s longest-running relationships with a major European circuit.

Tuscany highlights tourism and economic importance

The continuation of MotoGP at Mugello is also expected to support the region’s international visibility and tourism ambitions.

Eugenio Giani, President of the Region of Tuscany, said the agreement through 2031 reinforces the relationship between MotoGP and the region.

Giani described Mugello Circuit as an important asset for Tuscany and Italy, highlighting the role of major sporting events in promoting international visibility, tourism and investment.

Located near Florence, the Mugello Circuit provides Tuscany with an internationally recognised sporting venue capable of attracting thousands of visitors during the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

The extension therefore ensures that MotoGP and Mugello will remain closely linked through 2031, preserving the Italian Grand Prix at one of motorcycle racing’s most recognisable circuits.

For MotoGP, the agreement provides long-term continuity at a venue known for its high-speed racing, while Mugello and Tuscany retain a major international sporting event capable of attracting fans from Italy and around the world.
