Marelli Showcases Motorcycle Racing Electronics at FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum
Mies, Switzerland, September 10, 2026: Marelli is celebrating its long association with motorcycle racing with a new permanent electronics showcase at the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum in Mies, Switzerland.
Marelli has partnered with the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) to contribute a selection of its Electronic Control Units (ECUs) developed for leading two-wheel racing championships. The exhibit traces the evolution of motorcycle racing electronics and highlights the growing importance of data-driven performance in modern motorsport.
The Marelli section, titled “Everything is detectable – electronics,” features landmark ECUs developed by the company over the years. The display demonstrates how advances in electronics, control systems and computing power have played an increasingly important role in motorcycle racing.
FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum celebrates racing history
Created by the FIM, the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum features more than 40 official racing motorcycles spanning the history of the sport, from early racing machines to modern motorcycles.
The museum takes visitors through nine themed areas covering seven disciplines: Circuit Racing, Motocross, Enduro, Rally, Trial, Track Racing and Electric.
The exhibition is organised around three main pillars – “Heroes”, “Technologies” and “From Race to Road” – and showcases developments in motorcycle technology, equipment and engineering that have influenced both racing and road-going motorcycles.
Marelli ECU timeline traces evolution of racing electronics
The Marelli exhibit presents its ECUs as a technological timeline, beginning in the early 2000s with the MVL4 ECU.
The MVL4 was Marelli’s first ECU to use multiple processors, enabling the development of advanced electronic functions including traction control, anti-wheelie, engine braking and electronic throttle control, or Drive-by-Wire.
Another key milestone is the AGO-340, an ultra-compact engine and vehicle control unit that offered advanced control capabilities and was used in the MotoGP championship from 2014 to 2023.
The timeline then moves to the REX-140, a compact and cost-effective ECU featuring a dual-core microcontroller. The unit was developed for applications including Moto2, Endurance and Special series.
Its off-road counterpart, the REX-120, also features in the exhibition. Marelli highlights the ECU’s racing pedigree, including its role in a Dakar Rally victory and success in other championships.
The latest ECU showcased is the BAZ-340, which has evolved through more than a decade of development in MotoGP. In use in the championship since 2023, the BAZ-340 builds on the AGO-340 platform with increased computational power to support advanced control strategies and high-speed communication.
Interactive motorcycle racing experience
The Marelli section also includes an interactive element that allows visitors to experience a simulated motorcycle race.
A graphical visualisation demonstrates the relationship between the ECU’s role and motorcycle behaviour on track. Visitors can also use a digital dashboard to explore technical aspects of the ECUs on display, view historic photographs from different championships and learn more about Marelli’s involvement in motorcycle racing.
Riccardo De Filippi, Head of Marelli Motorsport, said the company was honoured to participate in the FIM project and highlight the role played by electronics in motorcycle racing.

He added that the company’s contribution to the Racing Motorcycle Museum provides an opportunity to highlight the role of electronics and innovation in shaping the history and future of motorcycle racing.
FIM Marketing and Digital Director Fabio Muner said Marelli’s presence would help visitors understand how advanced electronics contribute to performance, safety and innovation in FIM World Championships.

The permanent showcase provides visitors with a look at the technology operating behind the scenes of modern motorcycle racing, while tracing Marelli’s development of electronic control systems across different two-wheel racing disciplines.
