Honda Racing Corporation Appoints Alberto Puig as Advisor from 2027
Tokyo, Japan, May 14, 2026: Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has announced that long-serving MotoGP team boss Alberto Puig will transition into a new advisory role from the 2027 season, ending nearly a decade as Team Manager of Honda’s factory MotoGP outfit.
The 59-year-old Spaniard, who has been a central figure in Honda’s MotoGP operations since taking charge of the factory team in 2018, will continue working closely with HRC management across the company’s global two-wheeled racing programmes. Puig’s new position as HRC Advisor will involve supporting Honda’s MotoGP and WorldSBK projects, assisting management and riders, and contributing to the company’s long-term racing strategy.
Under Puig’s leadership, Honda HRC secured back-to-back Triple Crowns in MotoGP, cementing his reputation as one of the paddock’s most experienced and influential team leaders. Honda said Puig’s four decades of Grand Prix racing expertise will continue to play a vital role in shaping its future racing direction.
In his new advisory capacity, Puig will also remain actively involved in Honda’s youth rider development programmes, helping identify and nurture emerging talent while offering strategic guidance across all of HRC’s racing activities.
Speaking about the transition, Alberto Puig reflected on his long association with Honda and Grand Prix racing.
“I first stepped into the World Championship paddock in 1987 and since then I have been a racer, worked with young riders, a rider manager and a team manager – always with Honda,” Puig said.
“During this time, I have experienced many moments, positive and negative, all of which have given me valuable knowledge on how to work with riders, people and different situations. It’s been a life of leading from the front and now I feel my skills are best suited to look at the overall picture.”
He added that he is looking forward to helping Honda HRC continue to grow and compete at the highest level of motorcycle racing.
The move comes as Honda Racing Corporation continues its efforts to strengthen its competitiveness in both the MotoGP and World Superbike championships following recent rebuilding phases in premier-class racing.
