Sony Launches RX1R III in India – A 61MP Full-Frame Compact Camera Redefining Professional Imaging
New Delhi, October 10, 2025: Sony India has officially launched the RX1R III, the highly anticipated third-generation model in its legendary RX1R series. Priced at ₹4,69,990, the RX1R III combines professional-grade performance with portability — featuring a 61-megapixel full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor, BIONZ XR™ image processor, and the iconic ZEISS® Sonnar T 35mm F2 lens*.
Mukesh Srivastava, Head of Imaging Business, Sony India, said, “The RX1R III represents Sony’s commitment to innovation — blending the power of a 61MP full-frame sensor, AI-driven precision, and timeless design to empower creators to express their vision without limits.”
Exceptional Image Quality and Performance
At the heart of the RX1R III lies a 61MP back-illuminated full-frame sensor paired with the latest BIONZ XR™ image processing engine. This combination ensures stunning detail, low noise, and exceptional dynamic range. The sensor surface features Anti-Reflection (AR) coating and excludes the optical low-pass filter, enhancing sharpness and clarity.
The lens and sensor are precisely aligned at the micron level, resulting in outstanding optical performance in an ultra-compact form.
AI-Driven Autofocus and Creative Flexibility
Borrowing from Sony’s flagship Alpha lineup, the RX1R III introduces a dedicated AI processing unit for advanced subject recognition. The system accurately tracks eyes, faces, bodies, and movement — even when the subject isn’t directly visible — across both stills and video. With 693 phase-detection AF points covering about 78% of the image area, photographers can confidently capture fast-moving subjects.
The Step Crop Shooting function allows switching between 35mm, 50mm, and 70mm focal lengths without losing flexibility. Additionally, the macro mode offers a minimum focusing distance of 20 cm, enabling creative close-up compositions.
Designed for Creators
The RX1R III supports 12 Creative Looks, allowing photographers and videographers to experiment with colour tone, brightness, contrast, and sharpness. Among these, FL2 provides a nostalgic muted palette, while FL3 enhances vibrancy — offering creators versatile visual storytelling options.
Constructed with lightweight magnesium alloy, the RX1R III maintains a minimalist, durable aesthetic. It features an embedded control layout, a 2.36-million-dot XGA OLED viewfinder, and an ergonomic grip for improved handling.
Power, Connectivity, and Sustainability
The camera runs on a rechargeable NP-FW50 battery that captures up to 300 stills, with USB Type-C® Power Delivery for fast charging and extended use.
Aligned with Sony’s ‘Road to Zero’ environmental initiative, the RX1R III is manufactured using 100% renewable energy at Sony facilities. Its packaging employs eco-friendly Original Blended Material, significantly reducing plastic use.
Accessories for Enhanced Usability
Sony also introduced a range of accessories designed for the RX1R III:
- TG-2 Thumb Grip – for improved stability and one-handed control.
- LCS-RXL Body Case – offering protection and access to ports without removal.
- LHP-1 Lens Hood – made from high-strength aluminium for durable lens protection.
