Mahindra Racing Retains Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries for 2026/27 Formula E Season

Banbury, United Kingdom, September 30, 2026: Mahindra Racing has confirmed that Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries will continue with the team for the 2026/27 FIA Formula E World Championship, as the championship prepares to enter a new technical era with the introduction of the GEN4 car.

Both drivers joined Mahindra Racing in 2023 and will now enter their fourth consecutive season with the team. The continuity comes after Mahindra Racing’s strongest Formula E campaign to date in 2025/26, when the team equalled its best-ever result of third in the Teams’ Championship and scored a record 252 points in a single season.

Together, Mortara and de Vries have delivered two victories, 10 additional podium finishes and six pole positions for Mahindra Racing since joining the team.

Mahindra Racing Enters Formula E GEN4 Era

The 2026/27 season, also known as Season 13 of Formula E, will mark the beginning of the championship’s GEN4 era. The new-generation car is being introduced as the fastest Formula E car to date and represents a major technical step for teams and drivers.

Mahindra Racing will carry its existing driver line-up into the new era as it looks to build on its progress from the 2025/26 season.

Team CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand said retaining Mortara and de Vries would provide continuity as the team faces the challenge of adapting to the GEN4 technology.

According to Bertrand, the team has built trust, shared reference points and an established way of working with both drivers over the past three seasons. He added that Season 13 would involve a steep learning curve as teams begin understanding the new car.

Edoardo Mortara Enters His 10th Formula E Season

For Edoardo Mortara, the 2026/27 campaign will be his 10th season in Formula E. When the GEN4 car makes its competitive debut, the Swiss-Italian driver will have raced across all four generations of the championship.

Mortara has recorded six Formula E victories and 18 podium finishes during his career. He finished runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship in Season 7 and remained in mathematical contention for the title until the Season 12 finale.

His experience will be particularly relevant as Mahindra Racing begins adapting to the new GEN4 car and its technical characteristics.

Commenting on his contract continuation, Mortara said he was happy to continue with Mahindra Racing and highlighted the team’s steady improvement over the past three seasons. He also described the transition to GEN4 as a significant technical challenge.

Nyck de Vries Continues with Mahindra Racing

Nyck de Vries will enter his seventh Formula E season in 2026/27. The Dutch driver made his Formula E debut after winning the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship and went on to win the Formula E World Drivers’ Championship in just his second season.

De Vries has six Formula E victories and 15 podium finishes to his name. Two of those victories came during the 2025/26 season and contributed to Mahindra Racing’s record points haul and third-place finish in the Teams’ Championship.

De Vries said the last three seasons with Mahindra Racing had been a rewarding journey and that he was proud of the team’s progress. He added that the introduction of GEN4 represented a completely new challenge for everyone involved in Formula E.

Formula E 2026/27 Season to Begin in December

The 2026/27 FIA Formula E World Championship will begin in December 2026 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Before the opening race, Formula E teams will participate in pre-season testing at Jarama, Spain, from November 16 to 20.

Mahindra Racing will therefore enter the GEN4 era with an unchanged driver line-up and the experience gained from its strongest season in the championship so far.

The combination of Mortara’s Formula E experience and de Vries’ recent race-winning form will provide continuity for the team as it begins developing its understanding of the new-generation car and looks to build on its third-place finish and record 252-point haul from the 2025/26 season.
