Aston Martin Retains Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll for 2027 and Beyond

Silverstone, United Kingdom, September 30, 2026: Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team has confirmed that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will continue as its drivers beyond the 2026 Formula 1 season, with both drivers extending their long-term contracts with the team.

The announcement means Aston Martin will retain the same driver pairing for a fifth consecutive season, as the Silverstone-based team continues its development programme and targets improved performance in Formula 1.

Alonso and Stroll have been central to Aston Martin’s development since the team adopted its current identity. Their experience and technical feedback will continue to play a role as the team works on its future Formula 1 projects.

Alonso and Stroll Continue Aston Martin Partnership

Lance Stroll joined the Silverstone-based team in 2019 and will enter his 11th Formula 1 season in 2027. The Canadian has made more than 200 Grand Prix starts and has three podium finishes to his name.

Stroll’s continued presence gives Aston Martin a driver with extensive experience of the team’s development journey, having been part of the organisation through several phases of its growth in Formula 1.

Commenting on the contract extension, Stroll said he was pleased to continue with Aston Martin for the long term. He highlighted the team’s resources, personnel and ongoing development work at Silverstone, adding that he believes the organisation is moving in the right direction.

Fernando Alonso will also continue his Formula 1 career with Aston Martin. The Spaniard joined the team in 2023 and has since competed in 85 Grands Prix for Aston Martin, scoring eight podium finishes, including two second-place results.

The two-time Formula 1 World Champion’s new agreement extends his commitment to Aston Martin beyond the 2026 campaign.

Alonso said he had taken time to make his decision but remained motivated to compete at the highest level. He also pointed to Aston Martin’s leadership, personnel, partners and facilities as factors behind his decision to continue with the team.

The continuation of Alonso and Stroll provides Aston Martin with stability as it works on its long-term development plans.

He added that Aston Martin’s objective is to win and that the team’s immediate focus remains on improving performance while pursuing its longer-term goals.

The decision also means Aston Martin will avoid a change in its race line-up heading into the next phase of its Formula 1 programme. The established relationship between Alonso, Stroll and the wider team will allow the organisation to maintain continuity in its technical and operational development.
