F1 Authentics Mystery Box Adds McLaren MP4/13 and MP4-21 Fuel Cell Pieces

September 10, 2026: F1 Authentics has revealed a new guaranteed collectible for its limited-edition Mystery Box, with all 500 currently available boxes set to include an authentic piece of a fuel cell from an iconic McLaren Formula 1 car.

Mystery Box customers will receive a piece from either Mika Häkkinen’s 1998 McLaren MP4/13 or Kimi Räikkönen’s 2006 McLaren MP4-21. Each section has been carefully cut using water jet technology and is presented in a premium display case.

As the launch release for the new F1 Authentics product, Mystery Box owners will be among the first collectors to own one of the fuel cell pieces.

Two iconic McLaren F1 eras

The two fuel cell pieces come from important periods in the careers of Häkkinen and Räikkönen, both of whom became closely associated with McLaren during their Formula 1 careers.

Häkkinen’s fuel cell comes from the 1998 McLaren MP4/13, the car he drove during his first Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship-winning season.

The Finnish driver won eight Grands Prix that season as he secured his maiden F1 world title with McLaren.

Räikkönen’s fuel cell comes from the 2006 McLaren MP4-21, his final season with the team before moving to Ferrari. The 2006 campaign marked the end of Räikkönen’s five-year spell with McLaren, during which he established himself as one of the leading drivers on the F1 grid.

What is an F1 fuel cell?

The fuel cell is positioned inside the car’s monocoque, behind the driver and ahead of the engine, as part of the car’s fuel system.

It is a large, leak-proof flexible bladder made from military-grade ballistic material and is designed to safely contain the fuel required by the car during a race.

By cutting sections from the original fuel cells, F1 Authentics has turned a component that normally remains hidden inside a Formula 1 car into a displayable piece of motorsport memorabilia.

Verstappen RB16B bodywork also guaranteed

The McLaren fuel cell pieces join other memorabilia already revealed as part of the F1 Authentics Mystery Box.

Each box also includes a guaranteed authentic piece of bodywork from Max Verstappen’s 2021 World Championship-winning Red Bull RB16B.

There is also a major prize for one Mystery Box customer. One lucky buyer will win an Official F1 Replica Front Wing & Nose valued at £14,999, with the winner able to select the item from a choice of participating teams.

Beyond the announced items, each box also contains unannounced mystery memorabilia, which could include bodywork, skid plank pieces, brake disc creations and signed merchandise.

With only 500 boxes currently available, F1 Authentics says the Mystery Box is already selling fast, giving collectors a limited opportunity to acquire an authentic piece of Formula 1 history connected to two iconic McLaren racing cars.
