Woking, UK, April 23, 2026: McLaren Racing has announced the signing of rising British karting talent Harry Williams to its prestigious Driver Development Programme, further strengthening its long-term investment in grassroots motorsport talent.

Young Talent Joins McLaren’s Elite Pipeline

At just 11 years old, Harry Williams, hailing from Nether Alderley in Cheshire, becomes one of the youngest additions to McLaren’s expanding driver pathway. The programme is designed to identify and nurture future stars with the potential to progress to top-tier racing categories such as Formula 1, IndyCar, and endurance racing.

Rapid Rise Through Karting Ranks

Williams began his karting journey in 2021 in the Super One Series before moving into the Cadet category in 2022, competing in Rotax and IAME events at club level. His career gained momentum after joining Fusion Motorsport later that year, enabling him to compete across national and international championships.

In 2024, he stepped onto the international stage, securing a top-10 finish in the British IAME Waterswift Championship and delivering similar performances in the IAME Euro Series (X30 Mini category).

Breakthrough 2025 Season

The 2025 season proved to be a standout year for Williams, highlighted by multiple major achievements:

  • British Open Champion (Mini 60 category)
  • O Plate winner in the Italian Waterswift Series
  • Fifth place in the European Waterswift Championship

He also made an immediate impact after stepping up to the junior category, finishing third in the WSK Final Cup (OKN-J class).

2026 Campaign and Future Prospects

In 2026, Williams continues to build momentum, competing in the WSK Super Master Series in the OK-Junior category. His schedule also includes the WSK Euro Series, Champions of the Future Series, and the FIA Karting Championships, positioning him among the most promising young karters globally.

McLaren’s Vision for Driver Development

McLaren’s Driver Development Programme, overseen by Chief Business Affairs Officer Alessandro Alunni Bravi, aims to create a structured pathway for drivers to progress into elite racing categories, including Formula One, IndyCar Series, and the upcoming World Endurance Championship programme.

The current roster features a mix of emerging and established talent, including Pato O’Ward, Leonardo Fornaroli, and Richard Verschoor, among others.

Reactions from McLaren and Williams

Alunni Bravi praised Williams as a “fantastic karter” who has already impressed at both national and international levels, emphasizing the team’s commitment to building a sustainable talent pipeline.

Williams, meanwhile, expressed his excitement about joining McLaren, highlighting the opportunity to learn from one of motorsport’s most successful teams as he aims to progress into single-seater racing in the future.
