Mumbai, India, August 1, 2026: Tesla has announced that the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is now available for test drives across its Experience Centres in India. Alongside the launch, the American electric vehicle manufacturer has also introduced a suite of new Artificial Intelligence-powered features, headlined by the Grok AI assistant, bringing enhanced voice interaction and smart vehicle functions to Indian customers.

The latest announcement marks another step in Tesla’s expansion in the Indian market following the launch of the new Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive. The company said the AI-powered features will be delivered to owners through Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates at no additional cost.

Tesla Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive: Price, Range and Performance

Priced at ₹50,89,000, the 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is available with a down payment of ₹6,00,000, while monthly EMIs start from ₹39,990.

The electric SUV offers seating for up to five occupants along with 2,138 litres of storage space, thanks to its flexible seating configuration and power-folding rear seats.

Tesla claims the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and delivers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 500 km.

Customers can place orders through Tesla’s official website. Those booking the vehicle before August 30, 2026, will receive a complimentary Wall Connector, while Tesla has also confirmed home charging support across all Indian states.

Grok AI Assistant Comes to Tesla Owners in India

A major highlight of the latest update is the rollout of Grok, the conversational AI assistant developed by xAI, which is now available for Tesla owners in India.

Drivers can activate Grok by saying “Hey Grok” or by long-pressing the voice button on the steering wheel.

Tesla said Grok supports multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada, making the AI assistant more accessible to customers across the country.

The AI assistant introduces several new features, including:

  • Voice-controlled multi-stop trip planning
  • Hyperlocal search for Superchargers, restaurants, hospitals, coffee shops, ATMs and other nearby destinations
  • Explanations for vehicle warnings and alerts, along with suggested actions
  • Personalised voice interactions, including customised conversational styles and multilingual support

Tesla says these features are designed to make every journey more intuitive while reducing driver distraction and improving convenience.

OTA Updates Continue to Add New Features

Tesla continues to rely on its Over-The-Air software update ecosystem to deliver new functionality without requiring customers to visit a service centre.

The company revealed that it introduced more than 300 new or updated features globally during 2025, while the latest Summer 2026 software release expands Grok’s capabilities and introduces enhanced automatic navigation based on the driver’s travel habits and schedule.

Tesla Expands AI Computing and Global Deliveries

Tesla also highlighted its growing investment in artificial intelligence, stating that it more than doubled its onsite compute capacity in Texas during the first half of 2026.

Its Cortex 2 AI infrastructure is currently supporting the development of autonomous driving software and humanoid robots, with further expansion planned later this year.

On the business front, Tesla reported record deliveries in several international markets, including South Korea, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Portugal, Colombia, the Philippines, Chile, Slovenia and Lithuania. The company is also increasing production of its 4680 battery cells to support growing global demand for the Model Y, which it describes as the world’s best-selling vehicle.
