Pascal Wehrlein Wins Second Formula E World Championship as Taylor Barnard Takes Historic London E-Prix Victory
London, England, August 16, 2026: Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche Formula E Team secured his second ABB FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Championship after a chaotic Season 12 finale in London, while DS PENSKE’s Taylor Barnard became the youngest race winner in Formula E history by taking a dramatic victory in Round 17 of the 2025/26 season.
Barnard, aged 22 years and 76 days, held his nerve in a thrilling finale at the 2026 Hankook London E-Prix to beat Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara to victory.
Wehrlein’s championship campaign was anything but straightforward, with the title standings changing repeatedly during the race as the Porsche driver battled pressure from Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans and Andretti’s Jake Dennis.
Wehrlein Survives Dramatic Title Fight
The championship battle intensified on Lap 27 when Wehrlein’s engineer instructed him to allow Envision Racing’s Sébastien Buemi through as the faster driver.
A squeeze from António Félix da Costa subsequently allowed Dennis to move into eighth place during his first ATTACK MODE activation. For a brief period, Dennis moved to the top of the virtual championship standings as Wehrlein dropped to 12th.
The situation changed again on Lap 31 when Wehrlein made contact with Envision Racing’s Joel Eriksson at Turn 16. The incident pushed Wehrlein further down the order and caused race-ending damage to Dennis’ car, effectively ending the Andretti driver’s championship challenge.
Mitch Evans was running fourth but needed a victory to overhaul Wehrlein and claim the Drivers’ World Championship. With Barnard, de Vries and Mortara establishing a gap at the front, Evans could not make up the required ground.
Wehrlein eventually secured enough points to seal his second Formula E Drivers’ title.
“First of all, a big thank you to my whole team. What we did this weekend was outstanding again, delivered when we had to deliver, under pressure,” Wehrlein said.
“We don’t crack under the pressure – we love the pressure, we embrace it, and we get even better with pressure.”
Wehrlein’s triumph adds another major achievement to Porsche’s Formula E campaign, with the German manufacturer having already secured the ABB FIA Formula E Manufacturers’ World Championship earlier in the season in Tokyo.
Taylor Barnard Makes Formula E History
While the championship fight dominated the headlines, Barnard produced one of the standout performances of the London E-Prix.
The DS PENSKE driver used his final ATTACK MODE activation to move past Mortara for second before executing a spectacular move on de Vries into the final corner with just two laps remaining.
Barnard then held his advantage to take his maiden Formula E victory in front of his home crowd.
At 22 years and 76 days old, Barnard became the youngest race winner in Formula E history. His victory also came in DS Automobiles’ final Formula E appearance.
“To be the youngest race winner feels amazing and to do it in front of the home crowd, it feels unbelievable. I’ve got my whole family here as well. I’m speechless right now,” Barnard said.
The Briton described his decisive overtakes as “all or nothing moves”, adding that the final lap was one of the toughest he had experienced in his career.
Jaguar TCS Racing Secures Teams’ Championship
Although Evans missed out on the Drivers’ Championship, his fourth-place finish provided enough points for Jaguar TCS Racing to secure the ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship.
The achievement gives Jaguar the Teams’ title after Porsche had already wrapped up the Manufacturers’ crown earlier in the campaign.
The London finale therefore delivered a championship double of sorts, with Wehrlein taking the Drivers’ crown for Porsche while Jaguar emerged as the leading team.

The 2026 Hankook London E-Prix attracted a high-profile list of celebrities and sporting personalities for the final round of the season.

The expanded online platform will provide dedicated experiences for young people, parents and educators.
GEN4 Formula E Era Begins in December
The London E-Prix marked the end of the competitive GEN3 era, with Formula E now preparing for its next technological chapter.
The GEN4 cars will make their competitive debut during the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season opener in Jeddah on December 18, 2026, following pre-season testing in Madrid in November.
The new-generation Formula E cars will feature 600kW of power, equivalent to more than 815hp, along with active all-wheel drive available during every phase of the race.
With Wehrlein crowned Drivers’ World Champion, Jaguar TCS Racing taking the Teams’ title and Barnard signing off the GEN3 era with a historic home victory, the London finale provided a dramatic conclusion to the 2025/26 Formula E season and set the stage for a major new chapter with GEN4.
