Dan Ticktum Snatches Dramatic Tokyo E-Prix Victory in Final Corner as Formula E Title Race Heats Up

Tokyo, Japan, July 25, 2026: CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the 2026 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season by overtaking Andretti Formula E’s Jake Dennis at the penultimate corner to win the inaugural Tokyo E-Prix night race.

Starting from sixth on the grid, Ticktum executed a bold race strategy by activating both PIT BOOST and ATTACK MODE early, allowing him to emerge as the net race leader after the pit stop cycle. However, Dennis fought back late in the race, using his final 50kW all-wheel-drive ATTACK MODE activation on Lap 29 to pass both Nick Cassidy and Ticktum.

With victory seemingly in Dennis’ grasp, energy management proved decisive. On the final lap, Dennis was forced to lift early to conserve energy, giving Ticktum the opportunity to dive down the inside at the penultimate corner before the final chicane. The British driver completed the move to secure his second Formula E victory by the closest winning margin of the season.

The result also made it nine different winners in the last nine Formula E races, highlighting the championship’s remarkable competitiveness.

Dennis crossed the line in second place, while Citroën Racing’s Nick Cassidy completed the podium on an emotional weekend for the team following the passing of Team Principal Cyril Blais.

Championship Battle Takes Another Twist

The Drivers’ Championship witnessed another major shake-up after title leader Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche Formula E Team) retired following contact with António Félix da Costa (Jaguar TCS Racing).

Jaguar’s Mitch Evans capitalised on Wehrlein’s misfortune by finishing fourth, moving to the top of the championship standings with 144 points, three ahead of Wehrlein’s 141 points. Dennis’ runner-up finish also brought him firmly back into title contention, reducing the gap to just 14 points.

Edoardo Mortara rounded out the top five after another consistent performance.

Jaguar TCS Racing strengthened its advantage in the Teams’ Championship, while Porsche continued to lead the Manufacturers’ standings.

Dan Ticktum: “We Nailed It”

Reflecting on his victory, Ticktum praised his team’s preparation after a difficult season.

“This has been one of the hardest seasons I can remember in my whole career. We really haven’t had any fortune, but today was the opposite. We nailed it.”

The Briton admitted he was initially content to settle for second after Dennis overtook him but recognised an opportunity when the Andretti driver had to conserve energy on the final lap.

Ticktum also acknowledged that the victory comes at a crucial stage of his career as he remains a free agent ahead of Formula E’s GEN4 era.

Jake Dennis: “We’re Back in the Championship Hunt”

Despite missing out on victory, Dennis remained upbeat after scoring valuable championship points.

The Andretti driver admitted energy limitations ultimately cost him the win but said pole position and second place represented a strong weekend. He also credited Ticktum and CUPRA KIRO for executing an outstanding race strategy.

Dennis believes Andretti now has a competitive package heading into the remainder of the season.

Emotional Podium for Citroën Racing

Nick Cassidy secured third place in an emotional race for Citroën Racing following the recent passing of Team Principal Cyril Blais.

Ahead of the Tokyo E-Prix, the entire Formula E paddock observed a minute’s silence in honour of Blais, recognising his immense contribution to the championship. Cassidy dedicated the podium finish to the team, praising their efforts under difficult circumstances.

Away from the racing action, Andretti Formula E unveiled a striking chrome-and-blue Liberty Walk special edition livery for the Tokyo double-header, while Nissan confirmed it will supply powertrains to Andretti for the upcoming GEN4 era.
