Mahindra Thar OG Launched at Rs 10.32 Lakh with New Platform and Advanced Suspension

Bengaluru, India, September 23, 2026: Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India at a starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), bringing a major technological and dynamic upgrade to the three-door lifestyle SUV. Positioned as the successor to the three-door Thar introduced in 2020, the Thar OG retains the model’s iconic design and off-road character while adding a new platform, advanced suspension technology, more powerful engines and additional safety features.

Mahindra says the Thar OG has been developed to deliver greater refinement and everyday usability without compromising the rugged capability that has defined the Thar brand.

The SUV is built on the new M_Glyde 4G platform, which features increased stiffness for improved on-road and off-road driving dynamics. One of the key mechanical changes is the introduction of a rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, designed to improve cornering stability and vehicle control.

The Thar OG also gets DAVINCI Damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), which Mahindra says is aimed at delivering its best ride quality yet in a Thar. An Electric Power Steering system and enhanced NVH damping further improve the SUV’s everyday driving characteristics.

Mahindra Thar OG gets more powerful engines

The new Thar OG continues with petrol and diesel powertrain options, with two of its engines receiving increases in power and torque.

The 2.0-litre G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine produces 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the 2.2-litre D22 mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm.

The D117 CRDe diesel engine produces 87.2 kW and 300 Nm, with Mahindra retaining its existing power and torque output.

Depending on the variant and powertrain, the Thar OG is available with manual and automatic transmissions, along with rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations.

Electronic locking differential and Terrain Modes

Mahindra has also focused on enhancing the Thar’s off-road capability.

The Thar OG gets an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), available on four-wheel-drive variants, to improve traction when tackling challenging terrain. Four-wheel-drive versions also feature dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow Terrain Modes, which optimise the vehicle’s performance for different surfaces.

RWD versions powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engines also receive Terrain Assist.

The combination of the revised platform, suspension technology, ELD and Terrain Modes is designed to give the Thar OG greater control and confidence across both off-road trails and everyday roads.

New Mahindra Thar OG gets updated design

While the Thar OG retains the instantly recognisable boxy silhouette of the three-door model, Mahindra has introduced several exterior and interior changes.

The SUV gets a new grille, LED headlamps with signature C-shaped DRLs, LED front fog lamps with cornering function and new LED tail lamps. The front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned, while the wider track gives the SUV a more planted stance.

Higher variants feature new R19 alloy wheels, giving the Thar OG a more premium appearance.

Inside, the SUV gets Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, along with a soft second-row armrest with an integrated cupholder. Mahindra is also offering two new exterior colours — Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue — alongside six existing colour options.

Six airbags and all-disc brakes

Safety equipment has also received a significant upgrade on the Thar OG.

The SUV gets six airbags as standard, including four Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS) airbags for front and rear occupants. Other safety equipment includes front parking sensors, a rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring and all-disc brakes on higher variants.

The Thar OG also features an ESP 9.3 suite with rollover mitigation, adding another layer of electronic safety assistance.

The new Mahindra Thar OG starts at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom) for the AXT variant.

The LXT variants are priced from Rs 12.99 lakh, while ZXT variants start at Rs 13.99 lakh. Depending on the engine, drivetrain and transmission combination, the top introductory price goes up to Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra has specified that these are introductory prices valid for deliveries until November 30, 2026.

Thar OG targets a new generation of SUV buyers

Mahindra says more than four lakh customers have joined the Thar community, turning the SUV from an off-road-focused vehicle into one of India’s most recognisable lifestyle SUV brands.
