MotoGP 2027 Season to Begin in Thailand as Buriram Hosts Historic Opener Under New Technical Regulations
Buriram, Thailand, August 1, 2026: MotoGP has officially confirmed that the 2027 FIM MotoGP World Championship will begin with the Thailand Grand Prix at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram from March 5-7, 2027, ushering in a new era of premier-class motorcycle racing under the championship’s new technical regulations.
The 2027 Thailand Grand Prix will mark the third consecutive year that Buriram hosts the opening round of the MotoGP season, highlighting Thailand’s growing significance within the championship and the rapid rise in popularity of MotoGP across the region.
The race weekend will also be a landmark moment in the sport’s history as it will be the first competitive MotoGP event held under the new 2027-2031 technical regulations. Fans around the world will witness the debut of the next generation of MotoGP machines in race conditions, signalling the beginning of a fresh chapter for the premier motorcycle racing championship.
Buriram has become one of the standout venues on the MotoGP calendar, thanks to its passionate fans and vibrant race atmosphere. The 2026 season opener further strengthened its reputation, with Marco Bezzecchi taking a memorable victory for Aprilia in front of a record crowd of 228,228 spectators, underlining Thailand’s importance as one of MotoGP’s fastest-growing markets.
Speaking about the announcement, Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Group, said the decision reflects the strong partnership between MotoGP and Thailand.
