Tarun Garg Takes Charge as Managing Director & CEO of Hyundai Motor India from January 1, 2026
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) today announced that Mr. Tarun Garg has officially assumed charge as its Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO), effective January 1, 2026. The appointment marks a historic milestone, as Mr. Garg becomes the first Indian national to head HMIL since the company’s inception nearly 29 years ago.
The leadership transition underlines Hyundai Motor Group’s confidence in India’s leadership capabilities and highlights the country’s growing strategic importance in the global automotive ecosystem. With over three decades of experience in the automotive industry, Mr. Garg is set to lead HMIL into its next phase of growth and transformation in India.

Proven Leadership and Strong Track Record
Mr. Garg’s association with HMIL has been marked by consistent value creation. During his tenure as Head of Sales, Service & Marketing, followed by Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL achieved record-breaking sales for three consecutive years, its highest-ever profitability and EBITDA margins, and successfully executed the largest IPO in the history of Indian equity markets in 2024.
He also played a pivotal role in strengthening Hyundai’s SUV segment leadership, with a sharp focus on profitability, digitalisation, and customer experience.
People-First Leadership and Community Impact
Beyond business growth, Mr. Garg is widely recognised for his people-first and purpose-driven leadership. He spearheaded the launch of “Samarth by Hyundai”, an initiative aimed at improving awareness, inclusion, and accessibility for people with disabilities in India, reflecting Hyundai’s commitment to social responsibility.
Strong Academic and Professional Foundation
Prior to joining HMIL, Mr. Garg built an illustrious career at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, where he rose to the position of Executive Director – Marketing, Logistics, Parts & Accessories. Academically, he is a Mechanical Engineer from Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) and holds an MBA from IIM Lucknow, combining strong technical expertise with business leadership.
