Williams F1 Team Announces 50th Anniversary Celebrations for 2027, Reveals FW50 Plans

Grove, England, October 16, 2026: Atlassian Williams F1 Team will celebrate 50 years in Formula 1 in 2027 with a series of fan-focused events, a historic F1 car exhibition in London, a special Silverstone livery and the launch of its anniversary challenger, the FW50.

Atlassian Williams F1 Team has unveiled plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, with a year-long programme of events and activities honouring five decades of achievements in Formula 1. The celebrations will bring together the team’s championship-winning history, iconic cars and loyal fanbase while highlighting its ambitions for the future.

The centrepiece of the celebrations will be W50 Live, an immersive, multi-sensory exhibition scheduled to run from February 11 to 28, 2027, at 26 Leake Street in Waterloo, London. The ticketed public event will showcase Williams’ journey through triumphs, tragedies and landmark moments, featuring championship-winning cars and historic memorabilia.

The venue also carries historical significance. More than 50 years ago, team founder Frank Williams discovered co-founder Patrick Head working in a garage beneath a London railway arch. W50 Live will revisit that heritage beneath the capital’s railway arches.

Williams has won nine Constructors’ Championships, seven Drivers’ Championships and 114 Grands Prix since entering Formula 1, establishing itself as one of the sport’s most successful teams.

Tickets for W50 Live will go on pre-sale to W Club members on October 26, 2026, followed by general sales on October 29. Further details are available at williamsf1.com/w50live.

Iconic Williams F1 cars to feature at W50 Live

The exhibition will bring together several significant cars from Williams’ history, highlighting the machinery behind some of its greatest Formula 1 achievements.

Among the cars on display will be the FW06, the first car produced by Williams Grand Prix Engineering, and the FW11B, which Nelson Piquet drove to the 1987 Drivers’ Championship.

The legendary FW14B, which dominated the 1992 season and helped Nigel Mansell secure his first Drivers’ Championship, will also feature. The exhibition will additionally showcase the FW19, associated with Jacques Villeneuve’s 1997 title-winning campaign, and the FW25 from the 2003 season.

The FW25 was driven by Juan Pablo Montoya to a record-setting average speed in Formula 1 that remained unbeaten for 17 years. Another highlight will be the FW38, which recorded a top speed of 378kph with Valtteri Bottas, a figure cited by the team as the highest speed ever reached by an F1 car.

Williams FW50 to mark 50 years in Formula 1

A show car representing Williams’ 2027 challenger will be part of the exhibition. Named the FW50, the car’s designation will commemorate the team’s half-century in Formula 1.

The naming convention skips from the FW48, the designation for the team’s 2026 challenger, to the FW50. Williams followed a similar approach for its 40th anniversary, moving from the FW38 to the FW40.

Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz will drive the FW50 during the 2027 season as Williams continues its efforts to return to the front of the Formula 1 grid.

Albon became the driver with the most Formula 1 starts for Williams after surpassing Nigel Mansell’s previous team record of 95 starts in Barcelona in 2026. Sainz, meanwhile, has raced for Ferrari, McLaren and Williams, joining Mansell and Alain Prost among the select group of drivers to have represented all three teams that have reached a 50th anniversary in Formula 1.

The team will also offer fans opportunities to win a VIP trip to the FW50 launch and complimentary tickets to W50 Live through its website and official app.

Special Williams livery planned for the 2027 British GP

Williams will extend its anniversary celebrations to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where fans will be invited to choose a special livery for the team’s home race.

The one-off design will celebrate the team’s history at the circuit, which has hosted several defining moments in its Formula 1 journey. Williams secured its first victory at Silverstone in 1979 with Clay Regazzoni and celebrated its 100th Grand Prix win there in 1997 with Jacques Villeneuve.

The team has won eight times at Silverstone, including three victories with British favourite Nigel Mansell. One of the most memorable moments came in 1991, when Mansell gave Ayrton Senna a lift back to the pits on his car’s sidepod after securing a dominant victory.

Williams will announce further details of the fan-led livery selection process closer to the event.

Anniversary merchandise and events planned

The celebrations will also include limited-edition merchandise and collectible releases inspired by the team’s cars, drivers and defining moments.

Among the planned releases is a Williams W50 Monopoly set, scheduled to go on sale before Christmas 2026. A commemorative coffee-table book from teNeues will also document the emotions, personalities and achievements that have shaped the team’s 50-year journey. Both will feature the anniversary’s W50 branding.

While W50 Live takes place in London, Williams will head to Italy on February 18, 2027, for F1 Live Milan, the sport’s three-day fan event.

The team has confirmed that the current announcement represents the beginning of its anniversary programme, with more celebrations planned in the coming months.

Williams drivers and team leadership reflect on milestone

Alex Albon said it would be an honour to represent Williams during its 50th year, highlighting the team’s historic achievements and the opportunity to involve supporters in the celebrations. He added that the spirit established by Frank Williams continues to drive the team.

Carlos Sainz described Williams as a special team with a strong family atmosphere and distinctive values. He said the anniversary would be an opportunity to celebrate its achievements while using that legacy as motivation to improve performance and innovation.

Williams Team Principal James Vowles highlighted the independent spirit, passion and determination that have defined the organisation since Frank Williams established the team. He said the anniversary would introduce the people and stories behind its legacy to a new generation of fans.

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali also congratulated Williams on reaching the milestone, describing the team as an important part of the sport’s identity and history.

As Williams approaches its 50th season in Formula 1, the anniversary programme will celebrate its championship-winning past while reinforcing its ambitions to return to the front of the grid. With W50 Live, the FW50 and a fan-designed Silverstone livery among the headline attractions, 2027 promises to be a significant year for the historic British team.
