Maruti Suzuki Launches Automatic S-CNG Swift, Dzire and Baleno

New Delhi, India, September 19, 2026: Maruti Suzuki has expanded its S-CNG portfolio with the launch of automatic variants of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno, bringing the convenience of an AMT transmission to its popular CNG-powered models. The company has introduced the new range under its ‘Auto Green Mission’, aimed at customers looking for automatic driving convenience without giving up fuel efficiency.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG AMT claims a fuel efficiency of 36.47 km/kg, making it the most fuel-efficient sedan in India in the company’s stated comparison. The Swift S-CNG AMT delivers 35.34 km/kg, while the Baleno S-CNG AMT returns 34.47 km/kg.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the introduction of automatic S-CNG models is aimed particularly at customers who drive in congested urban environments and want the convenience of an automatic transmission while retaining the running-cost advantages of CNG.

“New-age customers are looking for the convenience of an automatic car without compromising on fuel-efficiency and performance in traffic conditions,” said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited. He added that the Swift, Dzire and Baleno are among the company’s bestselling models and that the addition of automatic S-CNG variants is expected to further expand their appeal.

Swift, Dzire and Baleno Get 5-Speed AMT

The new automatic S-CNG models are powered by Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Advanced Z12E engine, featuring Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology.

The engine is paired with Maruti Suzuki’s five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission, also known as an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The system provides two-pedal driving, allowing the transmission to automatically select gears in traffic and urban driving conditions.

Drivers can also manually select gears when required, while the clutch operation remains automated.

The 1,197cc engine develops 82.93 PS at 5,700 rpm and 112.4 Nm at 4,500 rpm in petrol mode. In CNG mode, it produces 69.75 PS at 5,700 rpm and 101.8 Nm at 2,900 rpm.

Maruti Suzuki Reports Rising Demand for S-CNG Models

Maruti Suzuki says demand for its S-CNG vehicles has continued to grow as customers increasingly consider alternative fuel options.

The company reported a 58% increase in S-CNG vehicle sales during the first quarter of the current year compared with the same quarter last year. In July, Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest-ever monthly S-CNG sales of 83,000 units, according to the company.

The new automatic S-CNG models combine Maruti Suzuki’s CNG technology with its AGS transmission, targeting buyers who primarily drive in cities and want reduced manual gear-shifting during stop-and-go traffic.

S-CNG Technology Focuses on Safety and Efficiency

Maruti Suzuki says its S-CNG technology has been developed and tested at the company’s Research & Development facility, with a focus on safety, durability, performance and fuel efficiency.

The system uses an Intelligent Injection System designed to maintain an appropriate air-fuel ratio. The CNG system also features stainless-steel pipes and joints to reduce the possibility of corrosion and leakage.

Other safety features include integrated wire harnesses designed to prevent short circuits and a microswitch that prevents the vehicle from starting while CNG is being refuelled.

The Idle Start Stop system is designed to shut the engine off during suitable conditions in heavy traffic and restart it when required, helping reduce fuel consumption during frequent stops.

Maruti Suzuki Automatic S-CNG Prices

The ex-showroom starting prices of the three models are:

  • Maruti Suzuki Swift: Rs 7.92 lakh
  • Maruti Suzuki Dzire: Rs 8.53 lakh
  • Maruti Suzuki Baleno: Rs 8.32 lakh
