EV Sales More Than Double

A standout highlight of Tata Motors’ performance was its continued dominance in India’s electric vehicle market.

The company sold 34,467 EVs during Q1 FY27, representing a remarkable 112% growth over the 16,231 units sold during the corresponding quarter last year. June alone delivered 14,800 EV sales, the highest monthly EV volume in the company’s history and nearly three times the level achieved in June 2025.

The strong performance reflects increasing consumer acceptance of electric vehicles and Tata’s leadership position in India’s rapidly expanding EV segment.

Shailesh Chandra: Customer Demand Driving Growth

Commenting on the results, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said the company delivered industry-leading growth supported by strong customer demand and the success of recent product launches.

According to Chandra, Tata Motors’ retail performance was equally encouraging, with Vahan registrations increasing by approximately 40% year-on-year, nearly twice the pace of industry growth. He also highlighted that the company’s leadership in electric mobility strengthened significantly during the quarter as EV sales more than doubled.

New Tiago and Punch Drive Demand

Tata Motors reported strong customer response to the latest versions of the Tiago and Punch, with bookings increasing across multiple powertrain options. The company said this reinforces the effectiveness of its multi-powertrain strategy, offering customers petrol, CNG and electric alternatives.

The company also noted that demand for entry-level EVs continues to grow, indicating that electric mobility is increasingly moving into the mainstream Indian automotive market.

Sierra Demand Remains Strong Despite Supply Constraints

Tata Motors revealed that production constraints affected volumes of the newly launched Sierra during the quarter. However, the company emphasized that customer demand and booking momentum remain robust.

The automaker said corrective measures are underway to increase production capacity among selected suppliers, which is expected to improve vehicle availability and accelerate customer deliveries from the second quarter onward.

Tata Motors Confident of Sustained Growth

With a strong order book, a growing EV portfolio, successful new product launches, and healthy customer demand across segments, Tata Motors enters the remainder of FY27 with significant momentum. The company believes its expanding product range and leadership in electric mobility position it well to maintain growth throughout the year.
