Apple Unveils New MacBook Pro with Tandem OLED Display, M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips

Cupertino, United States, October 29, 2026: Apple has unveiled a new MacBook Pro lineup featuring its PROLED XDR display, tandem OLED technology, touchscreen capabilities and the latest M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, the new laptops introduce significant changes to display performance, processing power and the way users interact with macOS.

The new MacBook Pro features peak HDR and SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Apple has also expanded colour support to include both P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, targeting professionals working in photography, video production, graphic design and other colour-critical applications.

Pre-orders opened on October 28, with the new models scheduled to begin arriving at customers and Apple Store locations from November 9.

MacBook Pro Introduces Tandem OLED Display Technology

The new PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology, supported by an advanced display engine designed to improve brightness uniformity, grayscale accuracy and colour reproduction.

According to Apple, the display can reach peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits, while its 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio helps deliver deeper blacks and greater detail in high-dynamic-range content. The adaptive refresh rate ranges from 10Hz to 120Hz, balancing smooth motion with power efficiency.

The display supports P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, making it suitable for professionals who need accurate colour reproduction. Apple also claims more than 80 per cent Rec. 2020 coverage for HDR video editing and colour grading.

A nano-texture display option is available to reduce reflections and glare, while factory calibration and reference modes are designed to support demanding creative workflows.

Touchscreen and Dynamic Island Come to Mac

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of touchscreen functionality on the MacBook Pro. Users can swipe through webpages, pinch to zoom into images, rearrange presentation slides and interact directly with creative applications.

Apple says the touch sensor is integrated into the display panel to reduce latency. A redesigned hinge provides additional stability during touchscreen use, while the interface continues to support familiar keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures.

The touchscreen functionality is designed to work with a range of third-party applications, including Microsoft Office, Canva, Notion, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender and Cinema 4D.

The MacBook Pro also introduces Dynamic Island, bringing a feature previously associated with the iPhone to the Mac. It provides access to Spotlight search, Live Activities and Siri AI, allowing users to view updates, control music and interact with selected functions.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Power New MacBook Pro

The new laptops are powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, designed for demanding professional workloads such as software development, artificial intelligence, 3D modelling, animation and high-resolution video editing.

Apple says the M5 Pro is suited to professionals handling intensive computing tasks, while the M5 Max targets users working with advanced visual effects, large AI models and complex creative projects.

The new MacBook Pro supports up to 128GB of unified memory and configurable storage of up to 16TB. Its GPU architecture includes enhanced shader cores, a third-generation ray-tracing engine and Neural Accelerators intended to improve graphics rendering and on-device AI workloads.

Lighter Design, Improved Audio and Connectivity

Apple has made the new MacBook Pro thinner and lighter. The 14-inch model weighs approximately 3 pounds, while the 16-inch version weighs 4 pounds. Their displays measure 14.2 inches and 16.3 inches, respectively.

Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours, according to Apple. The laptops also feature a six-speaker audio system with a redesigned woofer arrangement that the company says delivers 50 per cent deeper bass, alongside improved clarity and support for Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.

Connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack. The laptops also support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Touch ID and a 12MP Center Stage camera.

The new models run macOS 27, which brings Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features alongside additional software improvements.
