Haas F1 Signs Rafael Câmara for 2027 Formula 1 Season on Multi-Year Deal
Banbury, England, October 16, 2026: TGR Haas F1 Team has signed Brazilian racer Rafael Câmara on a multi-year contract, with the 21-year-old set to make his Formula 1 debut with the American outfit in the 2027 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. Câmara currently leads the FIA Formula 2 Championship and won the Formula 3 title in 2025.
TGR Haas F1 Team has announced the signing of Rafael Câmara on a multi-year contract, confirming the Brazilian driver’s promotion to Formula 1 for the 2027 season. The 21-year-old will graduate to the sport’s top category after an impressive rise through the junior single-seater ranks, including a championship-winning campaign in FIA Formula 3.
Câmara currently leads the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Invicta Racing. With two rounds remaining, he has accumulated 207 points, securing three Feature Race victories in Spain, Belgium and Azerbaijan. He has also recorded six podium finishes and five pole positions during his rookie F2 campaign.
His performances have strengthened his prospects of progressing to Formula 1, with Haas now providing the Brazilian with an opportunity to establish himself at the highest level of motorsport.
Rafael Câmara’s journey from F3 champion to Formula 1
Câmara won the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2025 before stepping up to Formula 2 this season. His progression has been supported by the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, which he joined in 2021.
The Brazilian has followed a development pathway similar to that of current Haas driver Ollie Bearman, progressing through the junior categories while receiving support from Ferrari’s driver development programme.
Câmara has also gained experience in Formula 1 machinery through his association with Ferrari and various testing opportunities. His first direct working experience with Haas came in August 2026, when he participated in a Testing of Previous Car (TPC) programme at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal, driving the team’s VF-25.
That test gave Haas an opportunity to assess his speed, adaptability and working approach ahead of his planned Formula 1 debut.
Ayao Komatsu impressed by Câmara’s potential
Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his enthusiasm about signing the Brazilian, highlighting his junior-category achievements and ability to perform under pressure.
Komatsu pointed to Câmara’s qualifying performances in Monaco and Montreal during his rookie Formula 2 season as evidence of his potential, particularly given the challenges associated with those circuits.
He also praised the driver’s performance during the Portimão test, noting that Câmara adapted quickly despite having limited time to familiarise himself with the car.
According to Komatsu, the team is committed to nurturing the young driver’s talent and providing an environment in which he can develop and perform at his best.
Team owner Gene Haas also welcomed the signing, citing Câmara’s accomplishments in Formula 3 and Formula 2. Haas noted that Bearman’s progression through a similar pathway had demonstrated how well-prepared young drivers could be when they reached Formula 1.
The team will now focus on building its relationship with Câmara and preparing him for the demands of a full-time Formula 1 seat in 2027.
Câmara thanks Haas and Ferrari Driver Academy
Câmara described his move to Haas as an important milestone in his career, thanking Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for their confidence in him.
He also acknowledged the role played by the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy and his family in supporting his development over the years.
The Brazilian said his immediate priority would be to prepare thoroughly for the transition to Formula 1, learn the car and work closely with the team as he continues to develop as a driver.
With his F2 campaign approaching its conclusion, Câmara will look to finish the season strongly before turning his attention to preparations for his debut year.
Haas strengthens its future driver line-up
Câmara’s signing represents another step in Haas’ efforts to develop young talent and build for the future. His promotion follows the route taken by Bearman, who also progressed through the Ferrari Driver Academy before reaching Formula 1.
For Câmara, the move offers the opportunity to translate his success in the junior categories into a competitive career in Formula 1. His combination of championship-winning experience in F3, a strong rookie F2 campaign and an encouraging Haas test has made him a significant addition to the American team’s plans for 2027.
