New Škoda Slavia Production Begins in Pune Ahead of Festive Season

Pune, India, September 28, 2026: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has commenced production of the new Škoda Slavia at its Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune, marking a significant milestone for the company ahead of India’s festive season.

The new Slavia builds on the success of Škoda’s popular sedan, which has recorded nearly 80,000 sales in India. The latest model brings updates to its design, technology, comfort and convenience while retaining the European engineering, driving dynamics and safety credentials associated with the Slavia.

The start of production comes at an important time for the Indian passenger vehicle market, with the festive season traditionally witnessing increased customer demand.

New Škoda Slavia gets new technology and features

The new Škoda Slavia continues to offer 5-star Global NCAP safety credentials and introduces several new features aimed at enhancing comfort and convenience.

One of the key additions is an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission paired with the 1.0 TSI petrol engine.

The sedan also becomes the first model in its segment to offer a Rear Seat Massage function. Other technology upgrades include a 360-degree Area View camera and next-generation infotainment with an AI Companion powered by Google Cloud.

Škoda says the new Slavia continues to combine driving dynamics, practicality and safety, while adding new technology and comfort features for Indian customers.

Škoda Slavia strengthens sedan portfolio

The Slavia has established a strong position in India’s sedan market since its introduction, with Škoda highlighting a close to 30% segment share.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Škoda Auto India, said sedans have been an integral part of Škoda’s global heritage for more than 90 years.

“The new Slavia elevates everything customers value about the car, combining timeless design, European engineering and safety, engaging performance, modern technology, and greater comfort,” Gupta said.

The new model is expected to strengthen Škoda’s sedan portfolio as the company looks to build on the Slavia’s existing customer base.

India becomes an important production hub for Škoda

The start of Slavia production also highlights the growing importance of India within Škoda Auto’s global manufacturing network.

SAVWIPL operates two manufacturing facilities in India with a combined annual production capacity of 315,000 vehicles. The company crossed the milestone of 2 million locally produced vehicles in 2025.

Under its “Made in India for India and the World” strategy, SAVWIPL has exported more than 725,000 vehicles to over 40 countries.

The company’s expanded Technology Centre Pune further supports its manufacturing and engineering operations, with a focus on localisation, product development and adapting vehicles for Indian as well as international markets.

Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto Chief Production Officer, said India’s manufacturing capabilities have become an increasingly important part of the company’s global operations.

“The start of production of the new Slavia is another demonstration of these capabilities and further underlines the strategic importance of India within our global operations,” Dick said.

New Slavia adds to Škoda’s India 2.0 portfolio

The Slavia is part of Škoda’s India 2.0 product portfolio alongside the Kylaq and Kushaq, while Volkswagen’s locally manufactured models include the Taigun and Virtus.

Together, the five locally built models have crossed 600,000 units in cumulative production, according to SAVWIPL.

The company currently operates a network of nearly 700 customer touchpoints across India and employs more than 4,000 people.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, said production of the new Slavia demonstrates the company’s development and manufacturing capabilities in India.

“With production now underway in Pune, we look forward to bringing the latest evolution of the Slavia to our customers while continuing to deliver the quality and engineering excellence they expect from a Škoda,” Arora said.

With production now underway at Chakan, the new Škoda Slavia is set to reach Indian customers as the 2026 festive season gets underway, bringing updated technology, enhanced comfort and a new automatic transmission to Škoda’s sedan range.
