Max Verstappen Extends Red Bull Contract Until 2030 in Major F1 Announcement
Milton Keynes, England, August 20, 2026: Max Verstappen will remain with Oracle Red Bull Racing until the end of the 2030 Formula 1 season, with the four-time World Champion signing a new multi-year contract extension with the team. The announcement further cements one of the most successful partnerships in modern Formula 1.
Verstappen joined the Red Bull Junior Programme in 2014 before making his Formula 1 debut with the team in 2016. He immediately made history by winning the Spanish Grand Prix on his Red Bull debut, becoming the youngest driver ever to win an F1 race at the time.
Since then, Verstappen has become a central figure in Red Bull Racing’s success. Together, Verstappen and the team have secured four Drivers’ World Championships, two Constructors’ World Championships and 71 Grand Prix victories.
The new agreement will see Verstappen remain with Red Bull through the end of the 2030 F1 season, taking his partnership with the team into seasons 12 through 15.
Red Bull commits to Verstappen for the long term
Oracle Red Bull Racing CEO and Team Principal Laurent Mekies said retaining Verstappen was a major statement of intent for the team.
“Having Max continue with us and retaining the best driver on the grid is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, Oracle Red Bull Racing, as well as F1 and motorsport as a whole,” Mekies said.
Mekies highlighted Verstappen’s competitiveness, determination and willingness to challenge convention as key characteristics that have made him an integral part of the Red Bull organisation.
He also said the decision was built on the trust developed between Verstappen and the team over many years, as well as the driver’s confidence in Red Bull’s people, culture and long-term vision.
“There are more races to win, more milestones to achieve and more history to write,” Mekies added, stressing that Red Bull’s ambition remains unchanged as it prepares for the next phase of its Formula 1 journey.
Max Verstappen excited about Red Bull’s future
Verstappen said he was pleased to continue his relationship with Red Bull and believes the team has the people and vision required to return to the front of the Formula 1 grid.
“I am really pleased with the contract extension. We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again,” Verstappen said.
The Dutchman described Red Bull as his “second family” and said continuing with the same team he has represented throughout his Formula 1 career was particularly special.
Verstappen has spent his entire F1 career with Red Bull-owned teams, moving into the senior Red Bull Racing outfit in 2016 after beginning his F1 career with Toro Rosso.
“I came to the Team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply lovely and we have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships,” Verstappen said.
He also praised Mekies and expressed confidence in the direction being taken by the team at its Milton Keynes base.
Red Bull’s new F1 era with Verstappen at its centre
Verstappen’s contract extension comes at an important point in Red Bull Racing’s development.
Red Bull Ford Powertrains has entered its first season as an F1 power unit manufacturer, while the team continues to invest in its technical infrastructure and facilities. The organisation is therefore preparing for a significant new era in Formula 1, with Verstappen positioned at the centre of its long-term plans.
The continuation of the partnership also provides Red Bull with stability as the team looks to challenge for more race victories and championships.
For Verstappen, the announcement carries additional significance as it was made during the final Formula 1 Grand Prix at Zandvoort, his home race in the Netherlands.
“To make this announcement during the last Grand Prix at Zandvoort is a great moment for me as well. Hopefully we can give the fans a special send-off for the final race,” Verstappen said.
