Tata Altroz iCNG AMT Launched in India at ₹8.69 Lakh, Becomes Segment’s First Automatic CNG Premium Hatchback

Mumbai, India, May 12, 2026: Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. has launched the new Tata Altroz iCNG AMT in India, making it the country’s first and only premium hatchback to offer an automatic manual transmission (AMT) with a CNG powertrain. The new Altroz iCNG AMT is priced from ₹8.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and expands Tata Motors’ growing multi-powertrain portfolio in the premium hatchback segment.

The launch comes at a time when CNG vehicles are witnessing strong growth in India, driven by rising fuel costs and increasing consumer demand for economical and eco-friendly mobility solutions.

First Premium Hatchback With Automatic CNG Transmission

Speaking on the launch, Vivek Srivatsa said the addition of AMT to the Altroz iCNG lineup addresses growing customer demand for convenience-focused CNG vehicles.

According to the company, CNG penetration in India reached 19% in FY25 and further increased to 22% in FY26, with adoption expanding beyond traditional metro markets into newer regions.

The introduction of an AMT gearbox aims to provide easier urban drivability while maintaining the fuel efficiency benefits of CNG technology.

Tata Altroz iCNG AMT Engine and Features

The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine producing 73.5 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode.

Tata Motors said its twin-cylinder technology places the CNG cylinders beneath the luggage compartment, helping preserve usable boot space — a common limitation in many CNG vehicles.

Petrol and diesel variants of the Altroz continue to offer 345 litres of boot space.
