Kia Seltos Secures 5-Star BNCAP Rating, Sets New Benchmark for ICE Vehicle Safety in India
New Delhi, India, March 30, 2026: In a major boost to automotive safety standards in India, Kia India has announced that the Kia Seltos has achieved a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP), setting a new benchmark among internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
The All-New Seltos delivered a standout performance in crash testing, recording 31.70 points for Adult Occupant Protection—the highest ever among ICE vehicles tested under BNCAP—and 45.00 points for Child Occupant Protection, one of the strongest scores to date. With a combined score of 76.70, the SUV has emerged as the highest-scoring ICE vehicle overall in the program’s history.
The certification was formally presented by Nitin Gadkari at a special ceremony in New Delhi, highlighting the government’s continued push for safer vehicles on Indian roads.
Commenting on the achievement, Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, said the milestone reinforces the brand’s commitment to making safety a core pillar of its product philosophy. He noted that the Seltos’ performance validates Kia’s engineering strength, with every aspect—from structural design to advanced safety technologies—focused on occupant protection, making it an ideal family SUV.
At the heart of this achievement lies Kia’s advanced K3 platform, engineered for enhanced structural rigidity and superior crash energy management. The platform integrates reinforced hot-stamped components and high-strength steel, designed to effectively absorb and distribute impact forces during collisions.
The All-New Seltos also features a comprehensive safety suite tailored for Indian driving conditions. It comes equipped with a 24-standard safety package, including six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill-start assist (HAC). In addition, the SUV offers Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with 21 autonomous features such as forward collision avoidance assist and smart cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
Further enhancing safety and driver awareness are technologies like a blind view monitor, 360-degree surround camera, and side parking sensors, creating a well-rounded ecosystem that combines active, passive, and preventive safety measures.
This milestone marks another key step in Kia’s safety journey in India, with the Seltos becoming the second model from the brand to secure a 5-star BNCAP rating after the Kia Syros. It also reinforces Kia’s broader strategy of bringing globally benchmarked safety standards to Indian consumers.
