Tesla Opens New Roadster Reservations in India; Model Y L Gets Free Acceleration Boost

New Delhi, India, October 17, 2026: Tesla has opened reservations for its new Roadster in India and select international markets, alongside the launch of a complimentary Acceleration Boost for the Model Y L six-seater electric SUV. The updates bring a performance-focused upgrade to Tesla’s existing Indian lineup while allowing customers to reserve the next-generation electric sports car ahead of its planned production start in 2028.

The new Tesla Roadster is inspired by aircraft such as the SR-71 and F-35, with the company positioning it as a high-performance sports car designed to deliver a new level of driving experience. Tesla says the Roadster will go beyond its existing Plaid performance models and feature SpaceX components.

Reservations are now open online through Tesla’s official India website. However, production is scheduled to begin in 2028, initially with left-hand-drive vehicles only. Tesla has not specified an India delivery timeline or confirmed when right-hand-drive versions will become available.

Tesla Model Y L Gets Free Acceleration Boost

Alongside the Roadster reservation announcement, Tesla India has introduced a complimentary Acceleration Boost for the Model Y L, improving the six-seater electric SUV’s acceleration performance.

With the upgrade, the Model Y L can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while retaining a claimed driving range of up to 681 km under the WLTP testing cycle.

The Model Y L is designed as a family-oriented electric SUV, combining additional seating capacity with technology, efficiency and safety features. The Acceleration Boost aims to make the vehicle more responsive while enhancing its performance credentials.

Tesla currently offers the Model Y and Model Y L in India. The company highlights the safety performance of its vehicles, which have received high safety ratings from organisations including the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C-IASI.

Tesla Model Y and Model Y L Prices in India

Tesla has positioned the Model Y and Model Y L at different price points to cater to customers looking for a premium electric vehicle and a larger family SUV.

• Tesla Model Y: Priced at ₹50.89 lakh, with a stated down payment of ₹6 lakh and monthly EMIs starting at ₹39,990.
• Tesla Model Y L: Priced from ₹61.99 lakh, with a stated down payment of ₹6.5 lakh and monthly EMIs starting at ₹49,990.

The monthly EMI figures are subject to applicable financing terms and conditions.

Tesla Expands Charging Network in India

Tesla is continuing to develop its charging infrastructure to support its growing customer base in India. According to the company, its current network includes 20 Supercharger stalls and 28 Destination Charger stalls, with three additional sites planned by the end of 2026.

Tesla has also enabled home charging for households across 23 Indian states, giving owners another option for charging their electric vehicles.

Home charging remains an important part of the ownership experience for electric vehicle buyers, particularly those who can install a charger at their residence and charge their vehicles overnight.

Tesla Refer and Earn Programme Offers Benefits to Owners

Tesla’s Refer and Earn programme is available for both the Model Y and Model Y L in India. Existing owners can share personal referral links with friends and family and receive rewards when referrals complete qualifying purchases.

Under the current programme, existing Tesla owners can earn ₹11,000 in credits for each successful referral, while new customers can receive ₹22,000 off a new Tesla. Credits can be redeemed for eligible benefits, including Supercharging credits and service-related offerings, subject to programme conditions.
