Maruti Suzuki Crosses 1 Million Vehicle Dispatches Through In-Plant Railway Sidings

Hansalpur/ Manesar/ New Delhi, India, September 18, 2026: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a milestone of 1 million (10 lakh) cumulative vehicle dispatches through its in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur, Gujarat and Manesar, Haryana.

Of the 1 million vehicles dispatched through the dedicated railway facilities, around 7.9 lakh vehicles were transported through the Hansalpur railway siding, while approximately 2.1 lakh vehicles were dispatched through the Manesar facility.

The milestone comes within just three years and five months of operations beginning at the Gujarat railway siding in March 2023 and the Manesar railway siding in June 2025.

Maruti Suzuki is currently the first and only passenger vehicle OEM in India with in-plant railway sidings at its manufacturing facilities at Hansalpur and Manesar.

Rail Dispatches Help Reduce Road Transportation

The in-plant railway sidings allow vehicles to be loaded onto trains directly within the manufacturing facilities after production. This eliminates the need to transport vehicles by road to an external railway station or loading terminal.

Maruti Suzuki says the shift from road to rail has helped avoid greenhouse gas emissions, reduce fuel consumption and ease road congestion.

In the current financial year up to August 31, 2026, the company has already dispatched more than 3 lakh vehicles by rail.

According to Maruti Suzuki, its Hansalpur and Manesar in-plant railway sidings accounted for 70% of its total rail-based vehicle dispatches in the current fiscal year.

Rail’s Share in Maruti Suzuki Vehicle Dispatches Rises

Maruti Suzuki has significantly increased its reliance on rail for vehicle transportation over the past decade.

The company’s share of rail-based vehicle dispatches increased from 5% in FY2014-15 to 26.5% in FY2025-26.

Since FY2014-15, Maruti Suzuki has cumulatively dispatched more than 3.3 million (33 lakh) vehicles by rail. Of these, 1 million vehicles have been dispatched through the company’s in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur and Manesar, while the remaining vehicles were transported using loading terminals located outside its manufacturing facilities.

The company has set a mid-term target of increasing the share of rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35% by FY2030-31.

Kharkhoda Plant to Get In-Plant Railway Siding

Maruti Suzuki plans to further expand its rail-based logistics network with an in-plant railway siding at its new Kharkhoda manufacturing facility.

The company says the additional rail infrastructure will improve the efficiency of its vehicle distribution network while supporting its efforts towards more sustainable logistics and India’s broader Net Zero ambitions.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the one-million-vehicle milestone marks an important step in the company’s green logistics journey.

According to Takeuchi, the Gujarat and Manesar sidings were developed under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, demonstrating the potential of integrated multi-modal infrastructure to improve operational efficiency while delivering environmental benefits.

Maruti Suzuki’s latest milestone highlights the increasing role of rail transportation in India’s passenger vehicle logistics network, with the automaker continuing to invest in dedicated railway infrastructure at its manufacturing facilities.
