MotoGP Grand Prix Commission Formalizes Updated Pit Lane Entry Regulations
June 5, 2026: The MotoGP Grand Prix Commission has officially approved an update to the sport’s pit lane entry and exit regulations, reinforcing safety and consistency across all race weekends. The decision was announced following a meeting of the Commission comprising Paul Duparc (FIM), Mike Webb (IRTA), Biense Bierma (MSMA), and Carmelo Ezpeleta (MotoGP Rights Holder and Chairman), with the presence of senior officials from FIM and MotoGP.
The regulation update formally incorporates the pit lane entry protocol that Race Direction introduced ahead of the French Grand Prix earlier this season.
Under the revised rules, riders participating in any track session—including practice, qualifying, sprint races, and Grand Prix races—must use only the designated pit lane entry and exit routes. These routes are clearly defined by a broken white line, the pit lane access road, and the official pit lane timing point.
According to the updated regulations, competitors are required to follow the complete designated entry or exit path. Any deviation, including failing to cross the broken white line or bypassing sections of the pit lane access road, could result in penalties imposed by the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel.
The Commission emphasized that circuit-specific instructions issued by Race Direction will continue to take precedence, with each venue providing detailed information regarding prohibited routes and operational procedures.
The move aims to eliminate ambiguity surrounding pit lane access, particularly during high-pressure race situations where riders may attempt alternative routes to save time. By codifying the protocol into the official regulations, MotoGP seeks to enhance rider safety, ensure fair competition, and maintain consistency across all championship events.
The updated pit lane procedures will apply immediately and form part of the standard operating regulations for all MotoGP World Championship classes moving forward.
