SWITCH Mobility Delivers First Batch of 100 Electric Buses to Mauritius

SWITCH Mobility, a global leader in electric buses and light commercial vehicles and part of the Hinduja Group, has officially flagged off the first 10 electric buses from a fleet of 100 SWITCH EiV12 e-buses destined for the National Transport Corporation (NTC) of Mauritius. This landmark deployment is part of a special initiative by the Government and people of India, presenting the buses as a gift to the Government and people of Mauritius—strengthening bilateral ties through sustainable mobility.

The ceremonial launch was held in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Dr the Hon Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius; Hon Osman Mahomed, Minister of Land Transport; and Shri Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius—highlighting the strategic importance of this electric vehicle deployment.

Promoting Sustainable Urban Transport in Mauritius

These 100 all-electric SWITCH EiV12 buses are part of SWITCH Mobility’s commitment to the ‘Make in India for the World’ initiative. Manufactured at the company’s advanced facility in Chennai, India, these state-of-the-art electric buses represent a blend of international engineering excellence and Indian manufacturing expertise. The initiative marks a major milestone in India’s emergence as a global hub for electric vehicle (EV) innovation and production.

High-Performance, Eco-Friendly Public Transport Solutions

The SWITCH EiV12 electric bus is designed for modern urban mobility, offering seating for up to 45 passengers. With a focus on comfort, safety, and efficiency, the bus is optimized for short and medium-distance city commutes. Key features include:

  • Advanced EV Technology: Efficient dual-gun rear-end charging for faster turnaround times.
  • Telematics & Smart Fleet Management: Integrated SWITCH iON system for real-time health monitoring and ITMS.
  • Passenger Safety: Equipped with Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) and low center of gravity for enhanced vehicle stability.
  • Eco-Friendly Design: Lightweight structure and ergonomic interior for optimal passenger experience.

These buses were procured through an open tender process by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) in India and will be operated by NTC, the state-owned public transportation authority in Mauritius.
